Additional charge for holiday cottage

Hi all ... I’ve booked a few days away for myself and a friend.
It’s a cottage with 2 bedrooms.
Paid for it and have received details/info which includes that one bed will be made up.
When I asked for the 2nd bed to be made up too I was asked for an additional £35
It’s was obviously assumed that we would be sharing and wouldn’t be using the second bedroom.
This charge was not mentioned when booking.
I’m a bit miffed about this, but have reluctantly agreed to pay.
My questions about it not being mentioned in the info before booking have not been answered.

Is this normal practice?
I’ve never experienced it before.

Hmm I've not come across that either. That definitely seems a bit cheeky given it wasn't mentioned until booking. Presumably then it would have been more expensive if booked for 4 of you, as then both beds would have been used, I'm guessing they assumed you only needed 1 bed and were a couple?

Sorry I feel like that made more sense in my head!

I think it happens - over the summer we rented a villa with a heated pool - only to discover the heated pool had to be paid for - an extra $50 a day! We paid begrudgingly.

It made sense!
I think it’s a bit cheeky too.

Is it a charge to have bedding for the second bed, or a charge to put the bedding on?

FelicityMarbles · 30/09/2019 21:14

I assume it’s a charge to have the bed made up.

Take your own bedding - or even buy some, cheeky fuckers!

rededucator · 30/09/2019 21:16

I'd tell them you've had a change of plan and you'll share a bed. Then take a sleeping bag or your own bedding. £35 is a bit steep to put on and launder a set of bedding!

Was there a variable charge depending on the number of occupants? So, it sleeps 4 but there is a lesser charge if there is only two of you. They probably do that on the assumption that there will only be one bedroom to make up and clean afterwards.

FelicityMarbles · 30/09/2019 22:23

Americano you’re right I think, but I don’t think they should just assume that 2 people are sharing a bed.
I thought I’d booked a 2 bedroomed cottage, not one bedroom of a 2 bedroomed cottage, if you see what I mean.

I’d challenge that TBH if it wasn’t abundantly clear in the listing.
If you’re booking a 2 bed cottage then I’d expect use of 2 bedrooms.
