You wouldn’t necessarily know.

cantkeepawayforever · 30/09/2019 20:34

One of our nicest previous houses had a suicide in DS's bedroom some years previously.

No issue, no atmosphere, lovely house.

Smelborp · 30/09/2019 20:35

Are you watching American Horror Story?

Potnoodledoo · 30/09/2019 20:36

No,im not watching AHS.Just think its interesting.

Hmm I go by the feel of the house. If it felt dark, oppressive, frightening, then no I wouldn't buy it. If it felt welcoming and homely then yes I would.

Why wouldn't you OP? What is it exactly that you wouldn't like about it? Murders / suicides happen everywhere, not just in houses.

StarlingsInSummer · 30/09/2019 20:38

No. I don’t believe in ghosts but I don’t think I’d feel comfortable knowing something like that had happened in my home. I’m aware suicide or murder could have happened here anyway, and I just don’t know, but that’s fine.

FrappeLatte · 30/09/2019 20:38

No, I don’t think I would! If I had lived there already and was happy and comfortable, then found out about a murder or suicide in the house’s past, I don’t think I’d leave though.

Bluntness100 · 30/09/2019 20:39

No if I knew I couldn't do it, as if would just play on my mind too much.

InTropicalTrumpsLand · 30/09/2019 20:41

I would rather not know. As for whether I would buy it knowing it happened, it depends on the house. If I loved it before, maybe I would still love it enough to buy it, but if it was just an okay house, I might search more.

ShirleyPhallus · 30/09/2019 20:43

I’m sure that many houses have got sad histories and those occupants don’t ever know

Heartshapedbox11 · 30/09/2019 20:43

I would. And I'd do a wiji board!!!! And get a weird doll for the ghosts to possess.

But really I wouldn't care unless the murders were because of the area, like lots of armed robberies.

30not13 · 30/09/2019 20:45

A brutal messy well known murder, perhaps not.

A suicide, well a friend sadly took their life in it and I have since been in the house and it feels alright, no different, no dark sense of foreboding, so no that wouldn't affect me staying there

DontCallMeShitley · 30/09/2019 20:46

I probably wouldn't but if it felt OK on viewings I might.

However, some years ago someone I knew was murdered in their home. It was cleaned up and rented out again and one day as I was passing I could hear a child screaming, crying type of screaming not a tantrum, inside. It felt as if the horror was still there and the new tenant probably had no idea what had happened.

So, maybe a suicide but not a murder.

ShirleyPhallus · 30/09/2019 20:46

And I'd do a wiji board!!!!

“A wiji board” Grin Grin Grin

EdWinchester · 30/09/2019 20:46

Wouldn't bother me.

cantkeepawayforever · 30/09/2019 20:47

The house I would never have bought, because of its atmosphere, was being sold after a bitter divorce - the house felt evil and malevolent.

House where there had been a suicide, by contrast, was friendly, warm and welcoming.

MrsEricBana · 30/09/2019 20:47

My ndn house has an odd history. A developer bought it, did it up, they bought it, they don't know. I'm not going to tell them.

exLtEveDallas · 30/09/2019 20:47

Wouldn't bother me. It's the living you need to be wary of, not the dead.

Iggi999 · 30/09/2019 20:49

A suicide maybe, not a murder.

LoonyLunaLoo · 30/09/2019 20:50

Nope. My BIL’s a police man and he checks!

ForalltheSaints · 30/09/2019 20:50

I looked at and nearly bought a house that was three away from a place where a body was found five years later. Lucky escape!

cantkeepawayforever · 30/09/2019 20:51

Iggi, I think you are right. A murder would be harder to deal with, I think.

The lady who committed suicide was, by all accounts, lovely but unwell, and had self-medicated with alcohol.

NoTheresa · 30/09/2019 20:52

No.

TSSDNCOP · 30/09/2019 20:52

I have lived in a house where a suicide happened. My boyfriend wouldn’t stay there on his own Hmm

With a murder id be more worried about the house attracting ghouls.

EskewedBeef · 30/09/2019 20:55

There only reason I wouldn't would be if it was a well known case that was likely to attract ghoulish interest.
