Yes, pretty much.

If they are 11 days or less then you officially have a short luteal phase which can indicate problems. So 12-14 days is normal. Longer than 14 days is extremely unusual if you actually count correctly

Thank you
I’m trying to avoid taking period delay medication if I don’t need to

Not necessarily, no. It depends on how long your luteal phase usually is. The average is 14, but it can be anything from 10-17 days without you necessarily knowing.

Have you tracked your periods before? Generally the only way to know what your normal luteal phase is like is to pinpoint ovulation, which you do by taking basal body temperature and/or observing cervical changes. OPKs only predict that ovulation will probably be soon, they don't pinpoint or confirm it.

Not necessarily no. That's an average across a group of women.

For example I have an average 28 day cycle but I actually ovulate quite early - around day 8-10 (so a couple of days after my period ends).

This seems to be the distribution, so it is that 14 days (or close to) is the most common. Whether you'd want to go with that or not is up to you.

Not for me. I ovulate early (about a week post period) and then have a long luteal phase. My average cycle is about 30 days. Best not to assume when it comes to this (I’ve learnt the hard way!)

Saltystraw · 30/09/2019 13:51

My cycle was a regular 28-30 days but my literal phase was 12 days.. I would normally ovulate about the 17th give or take a day and get my period 12 days later

MissPepper8 · 30/09/2019 16:54

Something like a period tracker can give an idea of a cycle (I've used period tracker deluxe app for 3/4 years). So my app knows pretty much when I ovulate and when I'm due (give or take 1 or 2 days).

I've never been 28 days, ive always been 32 to 34 (sometimes even 37 days). I can feel ovulation but apart from my app I never know when I'm due.

Me too Identify

Exactly 14 days for me and my periods are fairly irregular. Pre conception vitamins lengthened my LP though and I had to stop taking them.

NameChange84 · 01/10/2019 23:39

Not for me. I have a 33 day cycle.

SpaceCadet4000 · 02/10/2019 03:04

There's definintely a range. My luteal phase is 11 days and I usually have a 31-day cycle. Definitely track other signs to try and identify ovulation accurately- temping is great, but also cervical mucus and you can track "ferning" in your saliva. I get ovulation pain, but all the other symptoms also confirm it.

Minai · 02/10/2019 06:26

When I came off the pill to get pregnant (twice) I had a very short luteal phase and was getting my period 7-9 days after ovulating. I got pregnant fairly quickly both times so it didn’t cause any problems for me
