Totally leak proof water bottles for kids

We have the Camelbak Eddy but the DCs chew the spouts and forget to close them in their bags.
We also have Sistema but the lids don't seem to fit after a while, or maybe they just aren't interchangeable and we've lost one bottle and a different lid?
DD also tends to put hers in her bag without closing it so again they leak.
Are there bottles where the lid closes automatically?
DS chews everything and the standard sports caps last about a week.

(They are 5 and 7 but DS has some SEN hence the chewing).

How old are your children?

We have S’well insulated bottles and they don’t leak. Mine are 7 and 2.5 and manage fine with them

NumberblockNo1 · 29/09/2019 08:59

Oh dear, cane to say Sistema was the only ones we found didn't leak when we researched this!

We've also been happy to replace fairly often as they're not expensive. (Mine lose water bottles.)

If sistema isnt working that's no help though!

TheJoxter · 29/09/2019 09:00

I just use screw cap ones instead of one with a spout, my sons is ‘sip by swell’, it’s insulated and doesn’t leak at all. I found any with a spout leaked after a while and he always forgot to close them

redchocolatebutton · 29/09/2019 09:03

we switched to screw lid sistema as the spouty ones are difficult to clean and the water tastes vile.

spoonyJoe · 29/09/2019 09:09

We’ve used these contigo ones for years as my dd could never remember to put the spout down. You have to press to have a drink then it closes when they stop pressing.

That is the bigger one, there is a smaller one too. They aren’t heavy, they are easy to clean and are dishwasher safe.

They nearly always have them in TKMaxx for £10.

madnessitellyou · 29/09/2019 09:10

They’re probably more then you want to spend on young dc, but the Chilly bottles don’t leak. Plus the water tastes nice!

BikeRunSki · 29/09/2019 09:11

I was going to say Camelbak Eddy...

Have you tried Camelbak Podium bottles?

BikeRunSki · 29/09/2019 09:15

Chilly bottles are great, but you do need to remember to do the lid up tight. It sounds like the OP’s DC might not remember, because otherwise the Camelbak Eddy bottles she has would work fit her.

ChippyMinton · 29/09/2019 09:16

Try the Wilkos or Tesco versions of chilly for about a fiver.
If you can trust them to screw the lids back on.

Decathlon bottles are good too.

drspouse · 29/09/2019 09:18

Thanks, I think the Contigo might work for DD. She wouldn't put a screw lid back on properly (and DS might struggle).
DS remembers to screw the Sistema back on so maybe we should start again with all new bottles to get lids that fit!
@BikeRunSki do the Podium ones have regular sports caps?

We use the Ion8 ones. You can get them on Amazon in different sizes. They really don't leak. They have a flip lid with a small open spout under it. The flip lid means its quite obvious when it's open or closed. You're supposed to latch them shut as well, but the button to flip the lid open is quite secure so in my experience it's not crucial to have that done up.

drspouse · 29/09/2019 09:24

If you can trust them to screw the lids back on.
Sadly I really can't! DS would try but DD would just give it one twist and give up.

drspouse · 29/09/2019 09:25

@Fabuleuse those might work for DS, he'd shut it, though he might chew through the spout - I'll have to see if you can get spares.

Fabuleuse · 29/09/2019 10:22

You'd need to replace the whole lid rather than just the spout because the whole bottom section of the lid is one piece. I don't think they sell them separately. They are sturdy though because the plastic is rigid so it's not very chewable. I originally got this type of bottle for my then 3 year old who chewed through all other types of sports bottle and straw cups, but he was fine with this.

drspouse · 29/09/2019 10:31

Oh that's handy to know.

BikeRunSki · 29/09/2019 10:42

@drspoused this is the lid of a podium bottle. It had “open” and “closed” positions, but the spout underneath has a one way valve in which stops water from leaking out unless you suck/squeeze the bottle. It’s not entirely infallible, but you can drop them upside down in a book bag without them leaking unless you then also squash them.

We’ve used Sigg kids bottles for years with no leaks. Very robust too - they are full of dents from being dropped and still going strong. Ds was recently given a Chilly bottle, and on its first outing he failed to screw the lid on sufficiently tightly with predictable results Hmm. He has learnt from that though and we haven’t had wet school books since.

VenusClapTrap · 29/09/2019 11:34

Just discovered Sigg do different types. This is the type we’ve found good:

GeoffreyAndBungle · 29/09/2019 11:38

The only bottle I've ever found that doesn't leak is the camelback podium. It has a bit in the top to twist open and shut and it actually works!

EmmiJay · 29/09/2019 11:41

DD is SEN too. She would chew the hell out of the plastic bit. Drove me insane (6 bottles in one term). So I found these robust push top water bottles in Sainsburys. The plastic is thicker and she can't bite the attached straw sucky bit. They were £2.00 when I picked them up. They're also Sainsburys own brand. Very good quality, and holds alot.

MyMagicStars · 29/09/2019 11:50

I’ve got a Nalgene one with a wide top and a sip guard (can’t remember the name, sorry!) that is brilliant, and has never leaked. Fairly expensive (£10+£6 for sip guard) but has lasted well, BPA free and I’ve used it since Christmas. I put one in the stocking of each of my adult DC which have gone down really well, none of them use the sip guard but I like it. Lots of colours, too. When mine were little, I remember plastic pouch water bottles which you pushed down on to close, with animals on them- do they still make them?

ginyogarepeat · 29/09/2019 12:01

Contigo all the way! We all use them here.

Nixee2231 · 29/09/2019 13:07

I have Contigo Swish which I absolutely love. They have been dropped numerous times and can take a lot of abuse and have never leaked. They have a special one handed auto lock system which is very quick and easy to use and makes it impossible to spill. The only problem is that they are probably too hard to push for small fingers, so it depends on how old your kids are.

CallarMorvern · 29/09/2019 13:19

Sigg all the way. You can even buy replacement bits for them and they have lots of different types.
