So I finally got around to watching Bird Box...did I just not get it?!

Because I thought it was crap! (I generally don’t think that about anything Sandra Bullock is in, I adore her)
But generally I just thought it was crap!

Clever people told me it was supposed to be about PND, but I didn’t really get it either!

Faircastle · 29/09/2019 08:49

The book was very tense and difficult to put down.

I found the film underwhelming.

underneaththeash · 29/09/2019 08:50

I only managed the first 45 minutes!

Littlepond · 29/09/2019 08:50

I watched it and wasn’t blown away. It seemed quite disjointed and the bird thing just wasn’t really much a part of it?

Is it based on a book? It felt like there were loads of details left out - it really felt to me like an unsuccessful book to film. I’d read the book if there was one cos I think it’s an interesting idea

Littlepond · 29/09/2019 08:51

Cross post with faircastle so there is a book 👍

Faircastle · 29/09/2019 08:53

Clever people told me it was supposed to be about PND

I interpreted it as difficulty bonding with her children due to constantly being in a life or death situation. She knew they might be compromised at any moment.

Purpleloopy · 29/09/2019 08:57

I didn’t think it was all that either.

If I were in that situation curiosity would have gotten the better of me and I’d have looked. We’d all be dead!

I read somewhere that the meaning behind it is a disability isn’t a weakness - in that films case, blindness saved them.

Soubriquet · 29/09/2019 08:57

I wasn’t impressed with the film

You didn’t know where the entity came from, or why it was doing what it was doing.

How it was affecting some to commit suicide and then caused others to murder.

I’m glad I watched it, but I won’t watch it again.

The ending to me just felt very underwhelming and I was left with all the questions they didn’t answer

Alarae · 29/09/2019 09:14

Personally thought it was over-hyped.

Not great, not bad, just eh.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 29/09/2019 11:16

So pleased it wasn’t just me!

I haven’t read the book so didn’t have anything to compare it to but may now read it!

I loved it

Norma27 · 29/09/2019 17:36

I read the book but wasn't impressed. I nearly gave up on it. Haven't watched the film.

captainprincess · 29/09/2019 17:44

I absolutely loved the book, could not put it down.
I did like the film but much preferred the book. I do love Sandra Bullock though managed to watch it Grin

wanderings · 29/09/2019 19:29

Is it still only on Netflix? I'm curious about watching it, in spite of this thread, but I'm not sure I want to sign up to Netflix just for this! From what I've heard, it seems to be more about the blindfolding than anything else; one criticism I heard was "no kids would keep their blindfolds on for that long".

OnTheBorderline · 29/09/2019 19:31

It's pretty crap and the CGI is bad.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/09/2019 19:36

It was shit. Sandra B was appalling in it. But then again, I've only seen her in that and the astronaut thing with George C, and she was rubbish in that too.

The book wasn't very good either. Good idea, lazily executed.
