Help. I've done something stupid.

I was cleaning my oven and all the soap was getting stuck between the glass and the main bit of the oven so I had the bright (really stupid) idea of taking the glass out so I unscrewed it and the front of the oven came off too. I cleaned them and tried to put them back and I can't work out how to put them back on. To make matters worse somehow the hinge mechanism is now broken on one side. I rent and my landlord is going to go absolutely spare. Why couldn't I have just left it alone Sad Sad Sad

Can you pay someone to fix it? That's all the ll will care about. He doesn't even have to know.
If you can't, well that's what deposits are for, isn't it. It happens, don't stress.

Lily2811 · 29/09/2019 01:54

I don't know who I would contact Sad I feel like crying. It's a complete mess

Call in a professional oven cleaner. For around £60 - £70 they will get the whole oven sparkling in my experience. That usually includes all of the glasswork too.

Russell19 · 29/09/2019 01:57

No need to cry....get someone to come and have a look at it. It's really not worth stressing over xx

managedmis · 29/09/2019 01:57

You tube it

Topseyt · 29/09/2019 01:58

Some can do minor repairs too.

Lily2811 · 29/09/2019 01:59

@Topseyt the problem isn't the cleaning it's the fact the ovens now in bits and broken.

Have you looked on YouTube? They have all sorts of tutorials.

Also you could google the make and model of the oven to get the manual- they usually have info on taking apart and troubleshooting.

Failing that have a look for an electrical/white goods repair place locally so they can come and fix it (hopefully 😉).

Don’t panic! Oven doors come off like that and can be damn hard to put back on if you’re not that way inclined. Nothing has shattered or broken (I think??) so can be put back together.

I did the similar when cleaning the oven when we moved in here and I had no idea how to put the door back on - it appeared to have broken sort of (I couldn’t get the hinge/clip thing back into place) I was already forking out for a new oven in my head when the removal man saw the door was off and explained he used to clean ovens for a living and put it all back together in a few seconds. Have you googled? There will be a local handyman you can look for online or ask a neighbour for a handyman recommendation?

Just don’t spiral! It sounds like it can be fixed!

instaglum · 29/09/2019 02:04

Can you post a pic for analysis?

VenusTiger · 29/09/2019 02:08

Oven cleaner will put it back together for you if you pay. Call one and find out.

1forAll74 · 29/09/2019 02:11

I cleaned my oven the other day, and thought I would do the same as you. but decided not to take the door apart. But basically it should be possible really. as if there are screws or whatever holding things together, you would think they would unscrew and all be ok when put together again.

Lily2811 · 29/09/2019 02:12

@1forAll74 yeah that's what I thought but it turns out its not that easy.

Poppins2016 · 29/09/2019 02:18

None of it will be broken as such, if you have all the parts!

If you have the manual, it'll often instruct how to disassemble/reassemble for cleaning.

If that fails, I'd see whether an oven cleaning company will put it back together for you at a discounted price (seeing as you've done the cleaning part!). They reassemble oven parts all the time.

sittingonacornflake · 29/09/2019 02:19

You could ask on a local facebook page for recommendations for a handyman who could fix it. Briefly explain the issue as you have here and either a local handyman will see it and respond or someone will be able to recommend one.

My local hardware store also runs a small handyman business from it. Yours might do the same or they would definitely be able to point you in the right direction.

It's a minor fix I'm sure from what you've said.

Don't panic!

Lily2811 · 29/09/2019 02:36

Thanks everyone. Will try and find someone to come and fix it. Hope it's not loads of money Sad

I bet you can do it yourself if you Google how to do it!

BentlyandPalmers · 29/09/2019 02:41

What’s the make of the oven? Photos?

Try here with that info first.

Adviceorhelp · 29/09/2019 02:58

It’s not broken. They can be taken apart. You can do this yourself definitely. Do not worry. Post pics in the morning.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 29/09/2019 03:08

You tube it. There are tutorials on most things, that's how I took my oven door off ( husband put it back on because I panicked!Grin)

You tube your make and model and the same for eBay you will be able to buy the parts and replace them with help of a vlog on youtube. I've been here before but it was a washing machine and only cost me £12 in the end Smile
