Is it wrong to pop a spot on a toddler?

My nearly 3 year old has had a spot on her cheek for two weeks. It’s just this one spot and it’s a whitehead so it’s not a symptom of something else, although it doesn’t seem to be going away...

Is it normal to squeeze this spot or should I just leave it alone? It’s right in the middle of her cheek.

Prepared to be shot down in flames for child cruelty here...

I would be tempted but I think you should leave it alone in case it leaves a scar

Camomila · 27/09/2019 08:26

Why would you pop it unless it hurt? She's only 3 and won't be self-concious about it yet.

Cauntionary tale - DS had (just the one, he'd already had chicken pox the year before) chicken pox near his hairline, DH said it was an ingrown hair and looked really sore, so I gently scrubbed it with a towel to get the hair out. And now DS has a scar because it was a chicken pox not an ingrown hair Sad

No!!!!!!! Leave it alone!!!

My son had a black head around the same age in the same place for about a year, it was absolute torture to not squeeze. And then it turned into a whitehead, a huge one. I left it a couple of days until it was fit to burst and gave it a very quick squeeze so I could clean it up properly. The thought of him scratching it and sticking his finger in his mouth or his eye was too much to bear!

What about something topical? Tea tree oil?

I would. With clean hands and a tissue, but yes I would.

Witchend · 27/09/2019 10:28

I used to on ds.
When ill, he used to get one on his chin that he'd pick at and play with, and it would just grow and grow and get infected.

What I used to do was wait until it was clearly very full and ready, and when he was asleep put a quick pin in. He never flinched, or even noticed. I'd then pop some antiseptic on, and 9 times out of 10 it was all but gone by the next morning.
The times it didn't go, it just swelled up again and I did the same the next night and it always went then.

Branleuse · 27/09/2019 10:30

I would gently squeeze it. I could not bear to just leave it.
Its bad enough when theyre teenagers and you have to pay them to let you

Loveislandaddict · 27/09/2019 10:36

Yes, I would (and have done).

I left it for a while, and when I decided it wasn’t going away, did the deed.

FlatheadScrewdriver · 27/09/2019 11:26

Sudocreme. I don't know how, but it makes them disappear!

Glad it's not just me that does that 🤣

Sadie789 · 27/09/2019 15:07

Lol at paying teenagers! That’s a job I’ll leave to someone else... I did consider a pin... will try some sudocrem for a few days and if not might try and squeeze then because that will be 3 weeks by then!

I wouldn’t have given this a second thought!
I’d just pop it

Ebonyandivory2 · 27/09/2019 15:11

Tea tree oil and it’ll be gone in a couple of days. Popping may leave a mark

LazyFace · 27/09/2019 15:13

Children's skin is anlot thinner, it'll leave a mark. I squeeze my blackheads a lot but managed to resist for 10 years not to touch anything in my children.
It'll go away on its own.
