What can we do spray wise...

I can't risk dc being bitten it's not an option to save these spiders. What spray?

I've never had them before and now I've found 6 in a week.

We've got quite a few. Loads in the garden, every window has their web on it and we've killed a couple inside. I've either hoovered them up or dh has squashed them. I've been using method eucalyptus &mint bathroom cleaner around the doors to deter the big house spiders, it seems to work if I do it regularly. You can get a spider spray on amazon I think that has good reviews, or I've seen somewhere else you can get a plug in thing that makes a noise that they dont like. Never had them before but this year they appear to be everywhere!

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 26/09/2019 21:33

Ler same here, never had them. It's utterly alarming how they have suddenly sprung up ebrywhre.

I've never seen one in my life before and 6 that I have seen in one week?! I've not been brave enough to check elsewhere.

I need a kill spray.

We had one years ago that killed huge spider instantly but it was lost or chucked out, brought different spray from Robert dyas and it didn't kill spider...

So need tried and tested quick effective kill.

It might not make you feel any better but I'm pretty sure they can't hurt you, just a mild bite. The natural history museum has a page about them www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/news/2017/december/how-dangerous-are-false-widow-spiders.html

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 26/09/2019 21:48

I am alarmed.

Many people I know have had huge swelling, iv antibiotics.

I actually don't know many people stung by a wasp I know more bitten with very nasty bites from false widows. My dc have been v ill in hospital before and seeing a fragile small dc fight against something is not what I want to risk for the sake of a spider... Sorry for the rant bit I want a kill spray.

Tonight will be a write off. Tomorrow I would decamp en masse (parents, friends, hotel) and send in local pest control company. Might cost you a bit. Council won't help.

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 26/09/2019 22:04

I think it's the Nobel we have
. How do pest controllers work? How do they get all the spiders?

A sort of smoke oil bomb thing #vague. Poufff and smothers them.

Haggisfish · 26/09/2019 22:36

We have had a few, too.

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 27/09/2019 16:25

I've only just noticed, I think we have a great many.

I really feel for you! We've had lots at work and I'm terrified they will be lurking around the house. Robert Dyas has a good collection of sprays.
I have placed moth balls around windows it seems to have deterred but maybe I've just been lucky. Good luck OP

Having been bitten by one twice (was hiding in my dressing gown) it is a very painful bite, I was bitten on the arm and then chest and it wasn’t so much the bite but the venom did very much hurt. One bite was infected. Only thing I could think was thankfully it was me and not my small children!

yes I did immediately get rid of said dressing gown

I would use something like Raid I think it’s called - just a supermarket shelf one but lots of it. We do still have a couple of FW spiders living in our conservatory but I let them stay as they are up high and eat the flys. If they come out into sight I will hoover them but the little buggers are very fast at hiding away again

Muchtoomuchtodo · 27/09/2019 16:38

I don’t think you should underestimate them.

Look at this

I think you can get some kind of chemical bomb to let off that is supposed to kill them all. Don’t know how long you’d have to vacate the house for though.

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 27/09/2019 17:08

I've called pest control.

It's 300 quid Shock and our house has so many nooks and crevices.

I'm not sure what to do.

BTW I tried raid on a baby one and it didn't seem to kill it..
