Chamonix in October

Wasn't sure whether to put this in Style and Beauty or travel, so thought I'd put it here instead!

DS and I were due to go on holiday to Zante in a couple of weeks with Thomas Cook. Obviously we're not now, and the refund is going to take too long for me to rebook it this year (and also the prices have gone insanely high!)

DS has been so good about it, despite having had a horrible year, and being off school waiting for specialist provision, so I decided to book something completely different but affordable, and found a really good deal with easyjet going to Chamonix for 5 days.

But I don't know what clothes to take (beach wear out of the suitcase now!) or how best to get there from Geneva airport.
I was going to hire a car, but flight doesn't land until 9pm and don't think I'd like the 'wrong' side of the road, not knowing where I'm going, and the dark all at once.
There's an Easybus going at midnight, has anyone used this?

Does anyone have any advice on anything? Would be much appreciated!

Chamonix is beautiful! I’m jealous!
Not sure about the weather in October as we went in July (and it was hot). Maybe take layers and some walking boots. We went on a couple of beautiful walks. You can get the train up to the glacier and walk along to Mont Blanc with an amazing view of the Alps. It’s all set up for walking in summer and skiing in winter so walking trails are well marked.

We got a transfer bus from Geneva and it took about an hour. Can’t remember who we booked with but I’m sure there are lots of different companies. I wouldn’t hire a car as you will be able to get buses around Chamonix and walk from where you are staying.

Such a beautiful place!

Am jealous as it's so lovely there! No idea about weather though, as we were there in January. We used Alpybus which was a shared transfer arrangement and it was a great service. The cable car up Mont Blanc and the glass box walkway was just brilliant and there's a toboggan thing which was also fun.

Loads to do in a beautiful place. It's v posh though 😬

I don’t know about buses as we would just rent a car, but Chamonix is wonderful!
The weather could go either way in October but you will definitely need winter clothes and sturdy shoes to go up Mt Blanc.
Don’t forget to visit lake Geneva!

You are on the cusp of winter starting. Chamonix is 1000m above sea level. Chamonix shuttle are one transfer firm but Google is your friend. Worth going up Mont Blanc for the view and there is a railway partway up the mountain. Also the train over to Martigny in Switzerland which also goes from Chamonix to St.Gervais. English is spoken everywhere. Lovely town centre. If you do hire a car there is a French side and a Swiss side and there might be a cost difference. You may need to show your passport leaving Switzerland

Lots of companies do transfers out of Geneva Airport. Skilifts.com will give you an idea of prices for shared or private transfers if you don’t fancy hiring a car. We’ve also stayed in a Novotel hotel nr Geneva Airport which had great “family suites” so you didn’t need two rooms nor was it really expensive. Public transport is free in Geneva if you pick up a tourist bus/tram ticket with buses stopping outside the terminal if you do need a stay over.
