Would this cut be stitched or just left?

I cut my finger near the knuckle when I was cleaning out a tin. It’s cut it not deep but has a flap of skin and hasn’t yet stopped bleeding. I’m guessing with thin flap of skin they can’t stitch?

It’s not dripping with blood now though but hurts like hell. Just concerned as it’s on my knuckle how it will heal?

Little bump?

Photo might help?

TheJoxter · 26/09/2019 17:52

Whenever I’ve had deep cuts on my hands they’ve been closed with steristrips rather than stitches

WillowherbRose · 26/09/2019 17:53

Supermarkets have liquid skin which is like glue - very useful. They also do the thin strips to go across wounds and hold it closed which might allow more flexibility

Ouchmyheadhurts · 26/09/2019 17:59

Sorry forgot photo. The cut is small so feel a bit stupid and if it wasn’t on my knuckle I wouldn’t think twice I don’t think. It’s about 1cm, the flap of skin is now a blue colour..?!

I have a minor injuries in my town so wouldn’t go to a&e or is it me being over the top? Don’t understand why the skin is turning blue though...

A&E would probably just glue it, if that. I’d probably show a pharmacist first before worrying about doctors etc. They are very knowledgeable about all sorts and are always worth asking. Worst that happens is they say they don’t know!

Floralnomad · 26/09/2019 18:04

I wouldn’t go anywhere with that , the flap may fall off , if it were mine I’d stick a plaster on it and leave it .

Ouchmyheadhurts · 26/09/2019 18:05

Don’t have any open here now, but if a drive to out of hours was we are quite rural?

Fall off?! Why is it turning blue already though??

This is what it looks like now....

Use a steristrip from a pharmacy to keep it together. I cut the top of my thumb off while drunk one Christmas Day and steristrips saved it! I’ve ysed them a lot. Air can still get it to heal and I spray antiseptic spray in it every now and then.

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 26/09/2019 18:11

Put a plaster on and antiseptic and leave it.

It will knit together again soon.

I wouldn't go to the hospital unless it was falling off. (Your finger not the skin.)

If you are worried then pop to the chemist tomorrow and get someone to look at it.

Bobbiepin · 26/09/2019 18:11

Its blue because the blood supply to that bit of skin has been disrupted. Get it checked out.

LucieFurr · 26/09/2019 18:17

Personally, I'd stick a plaster on it and leave it

Ronsters · 26/09/2019 18:32

I did something similar recently, it bloody hurts! I cut my index finger washing a can out, it bled like Hell, I also had a flap of skin that kept coming apart and was quite deep.
I put a big plaster on to hold my finger straight as my cut was on the side of my finger, right on the joint. Bit awkward as I'm right handed.
You could try those steri strips you can buy at the chemist's, but a plaster will probably do the job.

Medievalist · 26/09/2019 18:35

Oh come on - put a plaster on it!

Newsheet · 26/09/2019 18:38

A previous poster saying get it checked out 😂

It’s a tiny cut. Please don’t bother the NHS with it.

If it bothers you then put a plaster on it. Personally I would probably cut/bite/pull off the flap of skin and just leave it alone.

Jesus

bloodywhitecat · 26/09/2019 18:52

I'd keep it out of water as much as possible and just let it heal, it looks completely normal and not in need of stitching.

DoulaDaisy · 26/09/2019 18:54

That will be fine. Wouldn't even steristrip it.

littlevoicer · 26/09/2019 19:16

I have something similar at the moment, on the top of my thumb. It's a pain in the arse.

I bought some fabric plasters and they seem to be doing the job nicely. It really doesn't need medical intervention.

tmh88 · 27/09/2019 07:04

Is it just that flap of skin? How deep is it? My sister did similar washing the blender but hers was extremely deep she had it packed in a&e. Only asking as hers looked like a flap of skin till she pulled it back and it looked like half her finger was going to come off Envy not envy!

Teachermaths · 27/09/2019 07:09

I can't believe people would bother a medical professional with that.

Shove a plaster on it and get over yourself. Wow.
