Derby County players caught drink driving

Apologies I don't know how to post a link.
Two of the Derby County Players were involved in a RTC a couple of days ago. Both sustained injuries and both arrested and charged with drink driving. There had been a club dinner according to the local paper and players were provided with transport home. Clearly not all of them used it.

Sounds like they were racing each other. A third player, the captain was in one of the cars and sustained a broken wrist and knee.

Should they face any disciplinary action from the club?

I personally feel that they should be sacked, the club should make an example of them. They are well liked players and hundreds of local kids and teenagers look up to them Confused

They are due to appear in court next month.

I understand what you're saying OP, but unless you drive for a living, would you expect anyone else to be sacked for DD?
I wouldn't.

dalmatianmad · 26/09/2019 16:38

No probably not but they are high profile and I just think they should make an example to show the younger fans how wrong it is!

You wouldn't expect anyone to be sacked for breaking the law and bringing the company they work for into disrepute in a very public manner? I would!

Drink driving is gross misconduct everywhere I've ever worked.l, whether you drive as part of the job or not.

Yes I'd expect the club to discipline them. Clubs usually do.

skippy67 · 26/09/2019 18:06

They're not high profile. I doubt anyone who doesn't support Derby would have a clue who they are! I don't think they should be sacked.

chuckeee · 26/09/2019 18:17

They've brought the club into disrepute. It's in every paper and on every news site. That's high profile, their employers will have to be seen to act on it. And they should.

PiggyPlumPie · 26/09/2019 18:19

The club have said the players will be disciplined. The captain is out for the rest of the season so I think that's a bit of justice in itself.

dalmatianmad · 26/09/2019 23:03

The club have issued a statement saying "there will he consequences, they will have to work with the community partnership and we will support the players when they are fit enough to play again".

They should be sacked in my opinion!

I'd say not sacked. Because presumably if they were then they would just waltz off and sign for a different club, suffering only the mild inconvenience of having to move house (and we know another club would sign them because football has repeatedly demonstrated no morals when it comes to signing players with dodgy pasts)

The club should, however, throw the book at them when discipling them. I will be disappointed in them if they don't.

And I assume that driving licences will be lost. People seeing them arriving for training and matches on a local bus might help make a point.
