How can I alter this dress?

I think it looks okay but it looks much better with the zip down. How could I alter it with no sewing skills at all?

Just seen a video DH did. It’s awful. I’m not wearing it!

Oh thank god, there was no fixing that fabric for you. You have a lovely figure with a nice bust to waist ratio. I actually found that second dress quite flattering

Dowser · 27/09/2019 16:50

I prefer the blue one
You look more comfortable in it

The blue dress is lovely and flattering OP. You've got a great figure and the blue shows that off. You looked crushed into the silver one and it makes your slender waist actually look bigger.

Oh god this is EXACTLY the type of thing I'd do, buy a dress that doesn't fit

Wear the blue one op, looks way better

Could you add ribbon to each side of the top at the back, leave zip down and just loosely tie the ribbon?

I can't really see the top of the dress, but I would cut the material out at the top,and make a strappy dress, make straps and sew them down to the back zip. I am always altering and cutting up dresses, but only a novice sewer.. You can buy trimmings to make straps in lots of colours and styles. You will need some decent scissors to cut that type of fabric though.

But if you don't just have a go at things like me,,I am sure a decent dressmaker can alter, and make that lovely dress look good.

The second dress is much nicer. I actually think the skirt on the first swamps you a bit.

If you order o ASOS you can pay by Klarna which gives you thirty days to pay (no interest). I buy things in various sizes or more than I can afford and then send the rejects back without having to pay for them. I got ASOS unlimited next day delivery for a year for £10 so it costs nothing.

I have attempted a lot of fixes on badly fitting stuff in my time. You end up uncomfortable, paranoid and likely with a ruined outfit by the end of the night. You have to be comfortable to move, dance, sit down etc. What looks ok posed static in a fitting room often does not work out in the wild! It just isn’t worth buying clothes that are too tight.

Rivkka · 28/09/2019 09:16

I would keep it in case you think of another occasion to wear it, but at the moment it's so tight across the chest it's making me wince.

I really like the blue one, you've a lovely figure.

@Noeuf what dress is this? I can't find it. The dress with the bow on the shoulder

Put in 'party dresses for women' in the search bar on amazon and filter by Prime and silver
