How do I go to a football match

I'm having a terrible week so trying to focus on something happy!! Like CHRISTMAS!

DS is a Christmas baby and is your typical footy mad 8 year old.

Rather than getting yet more video games or plastic tat, we're trying to focus on experiences as gifts. I, however, know next to nothing about football. How do I go about getting tickets for a Liverpool match? A home game would be preferable, but I'm sure he'd be happy anywhere. We're Bristol based so it isn't like Anfield is local to us!!

Go on their website and check out the ticketing page, all the information should be there.

Ring the club. I think it's unlikely you'll get tickets for a league game without being a member but there may be tickets available for more minor cup competitions and he won't care. Or youth/reserve games.

Or you could probably get him a season ticket for one of the lower league clubs in the area for not much more than a single ticket in the Premiership!

The big clubs usually do stadium tours too, which kids enjoy.

A stadium tour is a great idea. DH and DS have season tickets for their club now, before that it was practically impossible to get tickets.

He'd love a stadium tour. That's a great idea. I'll also call the club.

I'm American and a baseball fan so used to being able to rock up and get tickets to whatever game I fancied. 😂🤣😂🤣

You won't get tickets for Liverpool I'm afraid. They are offered to club members after season ticket holders and it's rare there are any spare. There's a 5 yr waiting list for season tickets. Many have been held by generations. It is a religion don't you know!

We occasionally get tickets if my season ticket holder friend can't go.

If you want to see a live match, Liverpool women play at home at tranmere rovers ground in prenton on the Wirral. Tickets always available and it's about 30 mins from Anfield.

We went on a premier league stadium tour last year (not Liverpool) and it was brilliant, very reasonable price too. I agree match tickets might be hard, if they get a lower league team in the next round of the EFL Cup that might be a possibility (the draw will be later tonight I think).

MadCap · 25/09/2019 21:56

Think I'll check out a stadium tour and get DH to take him to see Rovers since they're our closest team.

Oh do. Supporting a lower league club is so much more real, he'll be able to talk to the players, touch the mascot and feel part of the family. But look out for the draw tonight too, if it's not a "good" drawer tickets may be available.

BabyMoonPie · 25/09/2019 22:05

You'll struggle for match tickets, especially away. Football grounds are split between home and away fans so the away fans get a tiny amount of tickets - it's not like baseball (go Giants!) The Anfield tour is fantastic - you book through the website. Some of the tours are led by former players. There's also a small museum on site including the European Cup and a HUGE shop. The Boot Room restaurant is tasty

You got Arsenal, so no chance.

Firsttimeonlinedater · 26/09/2019 11:01

My boys are avid football fans, they both support a premier League team but getting tickets to watch them play was incredibly difficult, although I have managed it occassionally by joining the fans forum/message board and buying off season ticket holders when they can't make a match ... they also have season tickets for our home town non league team (£200 pounds in total for 1 adult and 2 children) so get to go to the football every other week all season, they love it, as the poster said above, they feel part of the football community, speak to the players, watch them train, interact with the mascot ... they have grown to love their home town team Grin

Oldraver · 26/09/2019 12:47

I have never managed to get tickets for Liverpool home in 20 odd years. DS is a fan and gas only ever seen them 'away' in the opposition side. But even that is difficult
