Diazepam and dentist?

I have a dental appointment this morning - my first in many years as I’m terrified. Have lived with two broken teeth for over five years but now I think I have an infection.

I still have some diazepam left from when I screwed up my back a few months ago - only needed it for a couple of days so have a few left.

If you take it before the dentist (I have done before but this was maybe 15 years ago) how long before do you take it? My appointment is in 3 hours and I’m shaking and nauseous already.

Are you driving to the dentist, OP? If not, you could take the diazepam whenever you like - it’s quite long acting.
If you are driving, and you haven’t used diazepam for a long time, you may be too sedated with a large dose to be safe on the road. In which case, get to the dentist early and take it in the waiting room.
You could have discussed it with the dentist in advance- many provide sedation themselves for nervous patients.
Try to relax and focus on how relieved, proud and chuffed you’ll be afterwards, with your teeth all sorted. Good luck!

Not driving no, and it’s only 2mg tablets so a very low dose - I’m just hoping it will take the edge off or at least have some placebo effect!

I haven’t been to this dentist before, it’s a first appointment with them which makes it scarier I think. I used to have treatment under sedation at a hospital when I lived elsewhere but they don’t do that here except in very extreme cases or when you can pay privately!

My doctor prescribed diazepam for me to go to the dentist. I only took it a couple of times because I stopped being nervous.

Obviously I don't know your medical record etc so cannot just say "You'll be ok, just go for it!", but thought I would let you know that doctors may prescribe it for that reason any way.

Thank you - yes I’ve had it for that purpose before.

I only took one as I didn’t want to be too spaced out, not sure it helped but maybe it helped a little.

Dentist was amazing and has referred me for everything I need under sedation - will be a long wait sadly but worth it. Need three teeth out including a wisdom tooth plus a cleaning and a filling so very glad I have that option!
