Never had a uti but now two in two months, feeling awful

I have never had a uti in my life until recently. I’m in my fourties. I had one last month for the first time ever. I was at a exhibition mainly with women so I was avoiding the loo queues and in turn didn’t drink enough for the two days I was there. A few days later I had a uti.

Today I was busy and out of the house all day. I didn’t use the loo for 7 hours but drank three times. As soon as I got home I could tell I had a uti coming on. I knew I should have used the loo at least once but was rushing about.

What’s going on? Is this something that gets worse as you get older or should I be worried? What’s the point of a cast iron bladder if holding it during busy times is going to result in this hellish pain? I think on balance this is like the pain of early / mid labour!

I'm the same. Had my first UTI in about 20 years last year and since then I have had several. Lots of antibiotics, goes away, comes back a month later. When we went on holiday this year, we were in the car all day and didn't drink too much. A day later it came on with a vengeance so it was a good thing thing I had some anti-bs with me.

Also, if I sleep through the night, I can feel like I am getting a Uti. So I drink lots and lots of water and by evening, I begin to feel a bit better. It's driving me nuts. I'm late 40s. I've had an ultrasound which looked ok so don't know what is going to happen next. Argh. You have my sympathy.

Thank you, I have been forcing water down since I got home but still just started to bleed. Anything you have found that helps? I’m hoping to get anti bs first thing.

I hadn't had a uti for years but have had at least 9 in the last year, I have been recommended to take D-mannose to protect my bladder, I take 2000mg a day.

Hideous, aren't they? I've had about 4 in the last year. Every single time after an enthusiastic sex session. May join a nunnery.
Nothing helps me except very strong antibiotics which are specifically for bladder infections ( kindly donated to me ).
Other than that it's just drink gallons and gallons of water with bicarb. in

I drink peppermint cordial & soda water, at least 2 litres a day, this & D-mannose capsules help me reduce how long a uti lasts, I suffer from overactive bladder & the first sign I am starting is an increase in the number of times I wet myself. I have to wear incontinence underwear & i have found that only Tena brand suit me, the always brand is perfumed & makes me itch & increase risk of infection.

Antibiotics ASAP. I had a kidney infection as the result of waiting too long for treatment of a UTI. I was in hospital for almost a week and off work for a month, I have never felt so ill. For symptom relief short term roughly 1/3 fill a mug with pearl barley and pour in hot water from the kettle. Stir and let it stand until it cools enough to drink. It may help to sieve it first just before drinking. Tastes grim but is soothing. One of my grandma's traditional remedies.

I started to get these about 5 years ago (late forties) and had 3 or 4 in 6 months. I read online about taking cayenne pepper daily for this problem and I used to have a quarter of a teaspoon dissolved in water (don't cough while you drink it, I did once and thought I'd broke my throat).
I did that for 6 months and since it appeared to work I bought a capsule making kit and make my own (you can buy them ready made).
I take a capsule daily and haven't had a uti since (I take it midway through my porridge so as to avoid heartburn).

I used to get UTIs all the time starting late 30s. It was hideous.

I’m mid 40s now and haven’t had one for nearly 18 months. I’m literally touching wood right now because I really can’t believe it!

The big life change I’ve made is diet related. I’ve completely cut out sugar and gone low carb. This way of eating is anti inflammatory and lots of common conditions are inflammation related, including it seems bladder problems.

I’d really recommend looking up anti inflammatory diets. I was getting seriously worried about the amount of antibiotics I’d had to take and kidney damage but this conscious anti inflammatory approach via diet really seems to have worked

I feel your pain. The dreaded ‘pause’ before the wee comes out...eurghhhhh
