Can I ask a brexit question?

I am sorry, so many today.

So talk again of a general election. I think Boris wanted one but labour said no. Why? Why would they say no and what would change 2 weeks down the line for Corbyn to say yes?

Because they wanted to keep Parliament open to legislate against no deal. Also BJ was powerless with no majority and that was considered better than him trying to strengthen his hand with more elected MPs from a GE. Timing too close to the Brexit deadline to fit a GE in and all the campaigning in would play into Brexiteers hands.

Off the top of my head. There are other reasons.

Because a GE would have taken until after 31st October, and resulted in crashing out. Now that Johnson has provably broken the law, he has to resign. However, Parliament will meet tomorrow, presumably appoint a Government of National Unity, and then request an extension. There will then have to be a GE, followed by a new referendum.

Thanks both. What a mess.
