The Conservatives will win with a significant majority.

You heard it here first.

Um, no, we didn't hear it here first Confused

BertrandRussell · 25/09/2019 15:36

I was just assuming that nobody in their right minds actively wants “no deal” . And surely a 3 way referendum can’t work from a practical point of view?

OP posts:
SingingLily · 25/09/2019 16:05

Nope, it needs to be a 2nd referendum

That would mean this Parliament agreeing on the question to be put. Agreeing on the wording of the question. Agreeing on something, anything.

I not only agree 100% with CuriousaboutSamphire about the barefaced theft of democracy but I agree with Geoffrey Cox.

This is a dead Parliament.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/09/2019 16:37

I was just assuming that nobody in their right minds actively wants “no deal” . And surely a 3 way referendum can’t work from a practical point of view? You can assume the first, but what about those people who would want No Deal? They probably think Reamainers or That Bad Deal'ers are out of thier right minds too!

You can't just look at it from your own perspective, you have to accept all viewpoints - or more of the same ridiculpus deadlock will ensue.

And of course a 3-way referendum can't work - another reason that harping on about having one is a waste of time!

Honestly? The only way out of this is either No Deal or Revoke Article 50. But as the first has been made illegal we are stuck with Revoke... not at all democratic. But what the hell else has all the shouting, grandstanding and fuckwittery been about?

mindproject · 25/09/2019 16:43

There is no point at all in having another election.

We need another referendum, now people are a bit more aware of some of the issues. Leave could still win, and if the campaign is run fairly and without lies then everyone would accept it. If remain wins, then we will know what people really want in 2019/2020. This won't be an advisory referendum, it will be the real thing, unlike last time.

smemorata · 25/09/2019 16:46

Well the referendum was never democratic in the first place so it seems a bit redundant to talk about what happened next.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/09/2019 16:59

Well the referendum was never democratic in the first place so it seems a bit redundant to talk about what happened next But it happened. What needs to be sorted is what happens NOW!

And goven the long drawn put discussions in parliament about a 2nd referndum THAT won't happen either, for many reasons, mainly undemocratic in that neither side wil agree until the right answer can be attained - as we have seen over thae past couple of years.

The same is currently happening about a GE... bluster and grandstanding on all sides.

lubeybooby · 25/09/2019 17:00

Been hearing this forever but it's yet to look like actually happening. Zzzzz

ginghambox · 25/09/2019 17:05

Leave could still win, and if the campaign is run fairly and without lies then everyone would accept it.

In your dreams.

Dongdingdong · 25/09/2019 17:16

Er, no I didn't! Confused

CactusAndCacti · 25/09/2019 17:31

I was just assuming that nobody in their right minds actively wants “no deal”

Sadly there are those that do, they want total separation from the EU. Others don't care and just want to leave.

ZenNudist · 25/09/2019 17:41

Hung parliament I reckon, or slim tory majority.

Seems like the parliamentary maths haven't changed that much since DC got a slim majority in 2015, then TC eroded that majority and cobbled together a deal with the DUP.

BoJo is a big roll of the dice. But I dont see Corbyn being PM. Ironic that Jez is more of a remainer at heart. I think he will have us out of the EU if he could.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 25/09/2019 17:46

GE is the only way forward, we cant have this dragging on for another year. Remainers are scared stiff that the people will vote to leave the EU again which is why then are afraid to call an election and are talking about a rigged referendum.

After that because the judiciary have decided to enter politics we will need to start having a new government appointing the SC Judges, so we get a fair system.

BunchMunch · 25/09/2019 17:58

Agree that we really need a GE.
Its looking awfully like a stitch up wrt to Brexit.
Disgraceful all round.

BunchMunch · 25/09/2019 18:00

Ignore the extra to, sorry Blush

Laterthanyouthink · 25/09/2019 18:09

Most people I spoke to today said if there was a general election that they would not vote as they are so disillusioned with the whole mess. Not sure what that would mean if there are a lot of people who would react that way.

I would like to see reform of parliament to get rid of first past the post and foster cooperation and coalition as standard.

CactusAndCacti · 25/09/2019 18:17

Remainers are scared stiff that the people will vote to leave the EU again which is why then are afraid to call an election and are talking about a rigged referendum.

No they are not. The last thing the country needs is a GE to add to the absolute chaos. Yes I wish we have never had the vote, but it is the remainers trying to stop it from being a one way ticket to shitsville. Meanwhile the leavers are just stamping their feet but not actually doing anything.

The leave camp (Inc BJ) need to start owning their own shit and stop blaming everyone else.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 25/09/2019 18:37

The last thing the country needs is a GE to add to the absolute chaos
So you dont want to resolve this matter? Had Corbyn agreed to a GE then we would have had it all settled before the next EU summit in October.

Remainers have to accept responsibility for the mess their tantrums are causing.

Ferretyone · 25/09/2019 18:37

I very much doubt it in the short term. Boris played games and has no majority in the house of commons so hopefully the opposition will now show how much power they have by hanging on as long as possible so that they can frustrate anything but good social laws coming into effect.

I have no idea whether the conservatives would get a majority though it is a dreadful thought for the future. If only Jeremy would do the right thing and say "for the good of Labour I am standing down"

I do want the matter resolved, that is not the same as thinking that a GE weeks before BJ's 'we're leaving, no matter what' is a really bad idea.

3 years the leave quarters have had to sort this out. They haven't for many reasons but mainly because no one took ownership from the beginning. Instead of blaming the remainers it needs to be asked why it is that they can't even decide what leave means, let alone how to do it. Easiest deal in history? My arse it is.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 25/09/2019 19:49

I know the polls show a big Tory lead but there's 12 (13?) Scottish seats they'll struggle to hold.

The dementia tax stuff shit themselves in the foot and boris is weirdly more popular than Teresa may but still I suspect no clear majority for anyone as votes split across minor parties

Elections cost millions, bloody waste of money, it’s just an ego contest, put money into public services instead

silveryleaf · 25/09/2019 20:12

I liked Jeremy Corbyn's speech yesterday. Felt like a real breath of fresh air from the decades of austerity we've had. Radical but I think the country could do with it. Be lovely to have a government that actually spends our taxes on public services.
