How best to attach 4 year old's gloves to him for school

I've just found 3 pairs of my son's gloves down the back of a bench in the school cloakroom, I need to attach them to him somehow so he doesn't need me to buy him a new pair for every school day until spring Hmm

If I do the traditional string through the coat sleeves then surely he'll end up a tangled mess when at least one side comes out with his arm when he takes the coat off. Or does this work better than I imagine? Or have I overlooked part of the setup which prevents this?

If I sew a glove to each sleeve then he'll need to change his coat every time a glove gets wet.

I've ordered sew in name labels so at least we might eventually find some of the lost ones again, but SURELY there's a method of hanging onto them that's a bit more efficient?!?

I have the same issue every single year with gloves. I buy my DC a pack of three pairs each at the beginning of Autumn and tell them if they lose all of those, I’m not buying any more and I stick to it too. My DC are older than yours but they have done it since they started school. Every single year they were getting through anything up to 8 pairs, just never kept hold of them.

Jojo Maman Bebe sell special clips to clip them to coats, might be worth a shot.

These.

The string thing works fine in practice. If you do find one dangling, and it happens for some, attach the string by the centre to the coat hanging loop or see the centre of the string to the middle of the neck of the coat. It can’t slip to one side then.

Elastic on the cuff to the mit. Knicker elastic it used to be.

The mitten clips worked for us.

katycb · 24/09/2019 10:02

Yes those clips..you can buy cheaper ones on eBay

bookmum08 · 24/09/2019 10:03

Elastic not string. Sew the elastic to the coat and the gloves.

endofthelinefinally · 24/09/2019 10:03

Use the string, but with a loop at the neck and a loop at each wrist. That way the gloves can't go back up the sleeves.
So you are threading the string through 3 loops before sewing the gloves on.

These are great. Saves the hat drama too.

Haworthia · 24/09/2019 10:08

I used those Jojo Maman clips and they worked pretty well. They’re not failsafe because the clip can occasionally come off, but at least you don’t have to sew them onto his coat sleeves!

steppemum · 24/09/2019 10:11

string thing works. You need to anchor it at the back of the neck, either tie it to the label or sew it.

But I prefer to sew the gloves to elastic and attached the elastic to the cuffs of his coat. Elastic stops it ripping, gives flexibility.

and name the gloves.

Another vote for the Jojo clips

TrailingPearls · 24/09/2019 10:12

Staple gun them onto his hands? Grin

CottonSock · 24/09/2019 10:13

I end up just buying a lot of cheap gloves from eBay. Bulk buy.

MrsCasares · 24/09/2019 10:17

Superglue - only joking.

DadCanIHaveAZedgie · 24/09/2019 11:54

I posted in your duplicate thread. I use a crochet string and safety pin it at the shoulders. But mitten clips are also good.

£2.99 mitten clips

MarigoldGlove · 24/09/2019 12:04

I used to use elastic instead of string. I also like those hats that are also a scarf with pockets at the bottom you can use as mittens. Only one item to keep, track of.

NannyR · 24/09/2019 12:08

Sew them onto elastic and thread it through the hanging up loop on the collar.

SudowoodoVoodoo · 24/09/2019 13:31

I'm so glad someone beat me to the staple gun comment. Sewing on elastic is better for safeguarding though Grin

Thank you for the excellent suggestions!

I think he's probably taking the coat off before the gloves and finding it too much of a faff to then put them back in the coat pocket in the crowded cloakroom, so I'm going to hang a string bag on his peg that he can put them in easily so that at least they don't get lost. His hat might dry out a bit in there too before home time.

When it gets colder and he's in the big waterproof gloves I'll ask if he'd prefer elastic, staples or superglue Grin
