How to exercise and diet with a 14mth old non sleeper while working ft

Spanglyprincess1 · 23/09/2019 12:37

Just that really. I have pnd and I know exercise helps me and a good diet.
But I'm on my knees and tierd. I tend to. Wedge in food or a glass sof wine and fall asleep. We do walks everyday but he's toddling now so it's painfully slow as is swimming etc.
I used to pre pregnancy swim and or run daily and kickbox. I'm so unfit and u healthy.
I want to do slimming world again but have no idea how ill manage.
Anyone got any ideas for exercise etc routines that work with tiny ones?

yoga or pilates on the sitting room floor isn't very exciting but my DS thinks we are playing so it's 2 for 1

Shahlalala · 23/09/2019 12:41

I used to do the 30 day shred or similar at home (DD would join in a bit!), as I didn’t have time for much cardio and then started adding in a quick half hour run when possible.

I have a 4 week old at the moment though, so back to square one!

Spanglyprincess1 · 23/09/2019 12:48

Thanks. I love high impact stuff. But yoga is a good place to start as I did some previously.
I think I may just need to make time even though it will be very hard. Need to get off my bum as it's been over a year!

Skipping when he’s napping?

Spanglyprincess1 · 23/09/2019 13:20

The non sleeper doesn't nap! He has 20 min in daytime while I attempt to blitz the house or cook food for him.
If he slept for an hour or more I could do a dvd but it isn't an option

You could exercise during the 20 min nap and do cooking etc whilst he's awake, put him in the high chair near you with a few toys etc

BikeRunSki · 23/09/2019 13:23

Can you run at lunchtimes at work?

MarshaBradyo · 23/09/2019 13:23

Start with yoga with Adriene at home

Short daily sessions

Could you do it after he goes to bed

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 23/09/2019 13:27

Jogger? I got a Thule Cougar chariot which you can use as a bike trailer, jogger and stroller. It's excellent and has allowed me to cycle and run with my non sleeper. She did actually nap in the trailer, annoyingly!

Good luck. It is tough but you can do it. It's so worth it when you feel healthy and strong and feel good about yourself.

Spanglyprincess1 · 23/09/2019 13:33

I was thinking of a bike trailer for off roading in the woods as he would like that I think. Are they stable as I would worry about falling?
I want to. Do. Couch to 5 k but it feels impossible. I do compressed hours around childcare so rarely get lunch

When you've got a no sleep soldier it's all about survival. Just sleep! You can sort the diet and proper working out when you're all sleeping again, it can wait.

If you need some exercise to help your PND I'd suggest just bunging your kid in the pram and going for really long walks (if possible). We're talking an hour plus, that should help with that and maybe help you feel less guilty about just collapsing to sleep of an evening.

Hang in there!

feemcgee · 23/09/2019 13:56

Awww hugs to you! I have discovered a love of Zumba, but I can't always get to the classes so have found great videos on youtube I can do at home. I would really recommend it if you like dancing!

DinosApple · 23/09/2019 16:01

When mine (around 1 & 2) were little I did Couch 2 5K in the evenings after I'd put them to bed. Around 8/8.30 I'd head out for half an hour.

I hate running, I hate the cold and the dark, but I bloody did it Grin... Could do with doing it again now mind (5yrs later)

Weepingwillows12 · 23/09/2019 16:03

Have a look at your local sports centres. Mine had a pay by the hour creche so you can do a class. Not that I ever did. The absolute nackeredness meant I just ate and ate........

lumpy76 · 23/09/2019 16:18

Imo when he naps you should prioritise yourself. You've said you have pnd and exercise helps so I'd really make sure you use that 20 mins for yourself to exercise. You may even find that sometimes he'll have a bit longer or that you'll feel you could fit another 10/15 mins in later in the day and then you've done 30mins +. I'm the same with exercise - helps my mental health so I'm pretty religious about it. Totally understand about how difficult it is with a baby...I've got 8dc! Xxx

Soola · 23/09/2019 16:34

I had a huge old fashioned wooden playpen that mine went in whilst I did Mr Motivator bums, legs and tums! That was over two decades ago and on VHS!

WeirdAndScary · 23/09/2019 16:35

I've just bought a bike seat that attaches to the front of my bike for my 8 month old DD. She bloody loves it and I felt it works better for biking off-road although I'm obviously not properly offending or mountain biking.

I also started the couch to 5k at the gym but I suspect now I'm back to work full time that's going to go to pot. But biking was always my joy so I'm hopeful. Other then that I just do a bit of yoga in the evenings.

Kiwiinkits · 23/09/2019 16:55

It’s really hard. Go easy on yourself. Things will change, you’ll have more time soon. Just get through this time as best you can and prioritise healthful nutrient rich food. A walk when you can. I found that when my kids were small that using active transport to get to work (like walking and biking) was all I could fit in.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/09/2019 16:56

When I was in your position I convinced Dh to get us a treadmill. We bought the cheapest of the mechanical ones from decathlon, think it was about £250, and I started using it 10 minutes a day. That often meant getting up 10 mins early, or squeezing it in some other way, and I gradually increased it up to 30-40 mins a few times a week. That decision changed my life; I lost Weight, and felt amazing, totally got the running bug. Ours lives in the utility room, and I still use it once a week or so, plus now I run outdoors.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 23/09/2019 17:08

Tredmill and intermittent fasting. Fasting requires no more prep just timing your meals.

Spanglyprincess1 · 23/09/2019 19:58

Well I on a whim joined slimming world tonight. So I'm going to try and do that and commit to a big buggy walk every day.. We do a walk anyway but I think a long loop post park play might help a bit and work up.
I work insanely early so I'm. About to go. To bed otherwise running before or after work is the answer tbf.

madcatladyforever · 23/09/2019 19:59

You can't do everything. He will start sleeping soon.

INeedNewShoes · 23/09/2019 20:03

I've been really pleased with our bike trailer and feel confident that it's safe and wouldn't tip. My only issue with it is that there's nowhere safe to cycle with DD locally so it means loading up the car with bike and trailer and driving to a country park or disused railway line.

Spanglyprincess1 · 25/09/2019 07:39

Yeah would be same for me. But I have a 7 seater so loads of room tbf.
Eatings going OK on day 3 now and I'm. Craving bread n sugar.
Exercise less well as too tierd. Plan us to go on big wet walk after work
