FIL stole from work and tried to give stolen items to us!

The ILs are obviously not the most honest of people, no tv licence (got caught) same with car tax. I’ve only known about these things when they complained after the fact and thought that it served them right. But now they are trying to involve us.

FIL came round at the weekend with some overalls emblazoned with his works logo. He thought DH might want them when he’s decorating or tinkering with his car. Long story short, he stole them from work. He made sure to tell DH not to wear them where they would be seen Hmm

They went home with him. He’s not v happy about it. Says we’re being stupid as “everyone does it”. Do they?

And why do people in the wrong try and make themselves the victim when someone points out they broke the law?

No they don't Hmm

There must be something wrong with his moral compass to think that stealing and fraud is OK. I would have as little to do with him as possible.

No, in my experience it's the minority who do it, not the majority. It may be the majority of people he knows though

Herocomplex · 23/09/2019 12:30

No they don’t. He’s trying to drag you in to their way of thinking.

HomewardHound · 23/09/2019 12:37

He’ll probably sulk about it for ages so hopefully it will be easy to avoid him!

No, everyone doesn't do it. In former jobs DH has known people do it and some have been caught and lost their jobs and possibly been prosecuted too.

DS had a summer job where he was lucky enough to be gifted some un-needed old tech, I asked him to get a letter from the company to confirm he was okay to keep it as it's really not something you want to risk (thankfully they were more than happy to do that).

What is so stupid as well, is that the stolen items weren’t even needed. I mean FIL didn’t need them. He just stole them and then tried to find a home!

That’s taking for takings sake!
