How can I get allergy testing done?

I've had a problem with perfumes and scented stuff for years. In the past it's caused me real problems at work with over-perfumed colleagues.

I'm also still in the middle of a washing powder crisis, ever since Ecover Zero changed their ingredients earlier this year. And PLEASE, no washing powder recommendations on this thread. In the past few months I must've wasted about £50 on endless detergents I can't use. I've had enough.

I paid to see a private allergy specialist (dermatologist) as my GP isn't interested. He said I wasn't suitable for patch testing because it only works for "true allergies", eczema, contact dermatitis etc. Apparently it doesn't show anything for people who only get itching. All he could do was recommend Surcare, which I have already tried and it makes me itch all over and smells vile. I even ended up with a UTI last week as the product was irritating me everywhere.

What I'm looking for is:

  1. Someone who can write a letter confirming that I have health problems with perfume, in case I encounter problems at work again.
  1. Someone who can tell me exactly what ingredients I'm "allergic" to, so I can read ingredients lists properly and avoid everything I need to avoid.

There must surely be some kind of specialist who can help.

I see where you're coming from, must be terrible. Allergy tests can be run to pretty much anything, but they're often inconclusive. For example; I am allergic to tree nuts, I know this for sure and the allergy test comes back negative.

Not sure what to advise, but I'd insist at the GP.

Try cutting out MI? Many people with allergies react to it.
Is it definitely perfume? Have you tried unscented products?
I have allergies. Unfortunately one of the things I react to can be labelled as lots of things. It’s often lumped together with other scents and not listed separately.

I am not interested in any more "have you tried" comments for products. I would just like to know how to get allergy testing done or what I should be googling for.

Re-post this with the allergy threads to hopefully get some knowledgeable people?

I wasn’t suggesting products. Merely explaining what I was told was the most likely allergen and that actually allergy testing may not be worth doing if it just comes back that perfume is the problem. Hmm

A relative of mine has had allergy testing on the NHS.

We are al quite shocked as we thought they only had seasonal hayfever and possibly mild rhinitis but the test came back with a big list of allergens and they have been used with two epi-pens.

Absolutely no information or instruction was given about the epi pens and we have concerns they could be mistakenly misused.

On the list of things they are supposedly allergic to is things like bleach which the person has been around in my home when they have visited as I use a lot of bleach and they have never had a reaction or expressed any sign of the bleach causing any symptoms.

They have inspired their partner does not buy or cook any of the ingredients that appear on the list and the partner is upset as they have enjoyed these things for years and again there has been no previous reactions.

So if you do get tested the results might be incorrect.
