Would you work in a school

Where your child went?
A lunchtime supervisor role has come up but my DC has just started and I'm not sure whether it would be a conflict of interest?

I don’t think so. There are many parents of children at our local primary. May depend a bit on the head though. There is also at least 2 parents who are TA’s and another who is a class teacher.

Rockbird · 22/09/2019 18:43

I did it for 2 years, loved it. Couldn't get on with the head though so left and this summer started a different job in a different school. Working in the same place as my children was no problem though.

Loads of parents do it.

My Dd is at the school I work in, no problems so far and I think it has helped her confidence in some respects.

neversaw · 22/09/2019 18:48

I think often children and parents have a different perception of no problems.

Blueshadow · 22/09/2019 18:49

Yes - I did it for a term, it was fine - it was only lunchtimes and she was off playing with her friends. Many, many parents work as ta’s and teachers in the same school as their children.

bushtailadventures · 22/09/2019 18:50

I work at the school my dgd has just started at, the TA in her class has children at the school, as do most of the lunchtime supervisors, even a couple of the teachers. No conflict of interest as far as I can see

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 22/09/2019 18:53

My mum was a TA in my school. No issues other than me being unable to call her Mrs X. It also used to be embarrassing when she’d invite my teachers to our house but nothing too scarring. We have a laugh about it now.

Having said that, I don’t want to work in my DD’s school. I’m a teacher and wouldn’t want to live that close to the school I work in and wouldn’t want people to ever think I was favouring her.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/09/2019 18:55

Lunchtime supervisors were usually parents at my school - the hours suited them.

fedup21 · 22/09/2019 18:57

I would imagine 90% of dinner ladies either have or have had their children at the school-thats most likely why they wanted the job.

EsclavadeGatos · 22/09/2019 19:10

It's completely ordinary around here for the qualified staff, including children being taught by their own parents. Never mind the dinner ladies. I think it's fine, tbh.

Dieu · 22/09/2019 19:54

No conflict of interest it all ... it's not like you'd be the teacher!
Go for it ... and best of luck Smile

BackforGood · 22/09/2019 21:02

Don't all dinner ladies start working as dinner ladies whilst their dc are in the school ?

ShimmeryShiny · 27/09/2019 20:05

Thanks all. I have applied. Do you need a child care qualification for a lunchtime assistant role?

Blueshadow · 27/09/2019 20:23

No, you don’t. They might give you some first aid training. But a wet paper towel cures everything. Gook luck!

ShimmeryShiny · 02/10/2019 07:54

Just thought I'd update this thread. I got offered the job!
