David Lloyd - is it worth it?

We went to look around our local David Lloyd centre, it was great and we were totally sold on the life style but realistically we both work ft and have 2 kids and I'm unsure whether they will like the kids activities as they are both ridiculously shy.

I used to be s size 14/16 about 2 yrs ago and now and 18 creeping to a 20 so desperate to lose weight and be a good role model for the kids. So the classes really appeal to me.

Im worried about joining and then not using the membership?

Are there other members here that do use it as a family ?

We pay £350 a month for full access to the gym for the family of 5 (2 adults and 3dc, 2 of which are teens) and I believe it’s an additional £40 a month for swimming lessons for ds. Not 100% sure as it comes out all as one in a dd.

Spa access for dp and I is also included in that membership price.

Hundreds of pounds a month and they charge extra for swimming lessons Shock

They must have seen you lot coming.

Imo it's only worth it if you use the pool a lot. My parents are members but they use the pool every day so they get their money's worth. I don't like swimming much so it would be a waste of money for me! DW and I use our cheapo local gym which costs £30 a month. We get classes and unlimited use of the equipment. It's fine for us!

We pay £33 a month for swimming lessons. Membership for my 5 year old is £20 per month which is unlimited swimming, soft play and activities. My 2 year old is a member but we don't pay for him.

We just didn't like it. I got a weird vibe from the place and I think there was definitely some snobbery. We are total fitness people. It's twice as nice for half the price.

I'm a member - I pay £90 for me and then £5 per hour for the Creche for DS who is 10 months old. It is expensive, there is no question, but for me it is the only local gym that has a Creche so that I can work out while older DC are at school. Lots of my friends go too so it becomes a social thing as well as we'll often stop for a coffee after a class or go for a swim. The outdoor pool is fab in the summer. The little soft play is great for the baby so he enjoys it and you can sign social guests in for free so I can take my older kids in for dinner/play in the soft play - they just can't use the pool or gym facilities. I also get a monthly guest pass if DH wants to go occasionally.

I used to pay for memberships for my older kids but they now have so many extra curricular things going on in the week and then play sport at the weekend so it just wasn't worth it for them.

I am about to add my 3 year old to my membership as he can do swimming lessons there on one of the days that he doesn't go to preschool. I plan to swim with the baby for the half an hour that his lesson is on. That will add £58 a month to my membership but I'll stop paying for waterbabies classes for the baby which currently cost me more than that!

Overall I think you need to think about what you want to use it for and realistically whether that usage is worth what you will pay for it.

Thanks for all the feedback, I know I could get s cheaper gym but it's really about being able to use it as a family.

Still torn as worried we will sign up and not use it !

You can just take a month's - more expensive - membership and see how you get on before making the big commitment.
Bear in mind, though, if you do take the year membership and carry on past your renewal date then you have to give 3 months notice to quit.
Plus both kids tennis and swimming lessons you have to pay for 50 weeks of the year, not 42 like term time.
Personally, I think David Lloyd charges elite prices and delivers a poor all round customer experience - that's if my local is anything to go by.
I think they should be concentrating on training and retaining staff as opposed to marketing themselves to new customers and squeezing as much as possible from both staff and loyal members.
