Sorry, another what should I do thread! I have had a achilles tendonitis for a year. Both feet sadly. Been doing exercises and yoga stretches which have helped. On weds morning my left calf and ankle became incredibly painful and I was struggling to walk. Saw a gp who saod tendon still intact and to do exercises and rest with foot elevated which I've been doing. I was just coming upstairs and i heard a snapping noise...some pain amd some slight swelling now. Can thos wait or do I need to get this seen to? :(

So...
1st dr said scan.
2nd dr said no scan, go home use crutches and rest for 2 weeks.
So pretty pointless.
No answer on calf pain, got compredsoon ankle support from boots.
All to save a ££ on a scan.
So hopefully the damage isnt too bad and it wont rupture!

Sounds like they are sure it’s not ruptured which is good ( mine was very obvious immediately)
I would agree don’t put any weight at all on it and rest to see if the inflammation goes down .
Hopefully the pain will recede and it will settle .

I’m sorry this is happening to you ... it’s unsettling as well as very inconvenient..
take care x

Glad it's not ruptured. Some physios can actually ultrasound the achilles , and if they've any concerns they can sort that out for you when you see them.
Sounds like it's more likely a bad tendonitis... Which is very very sore, but infinitely better than a ruptured achilles 👍👍

@Hoooo. Insist on a scan. If you have a partial tear you still need treating. Mine wasn't scanned but when it was it was too late as it has re torn. The later you leave it the higher risk of it not attaching properly and having to start at the beginning all again

I second insisting on a scan.DH ruptured his Achilles and the first doc he saw at A&E said it was just sprained. It was actually a nurse who was convinced it was ruptured and got a second opinion and scan, which showed it was 90% ruptured a needed a cast for 2 months to stop it fully snapping. His recovery took a year but it would have been worse if untreated.

Hi all,
I'm still on crutches and trying very hard not to put weight on it.
It's not actually that painful now and swelling is minimal.
My gp asked them to scan it last year - referral refused.
Surgeon on Monday was very insistent it didn't need scanning.
I'd agree if not for the fact I know it's due to budget constraints :(
Dh has bupa. I may be able to get a scan through them...worth it?
Probably won't alter the "treatment" but...

If you can move your foot, it probably is still partially attached. Both my parents snapped theirs, 6 weeks in hip to toe plaster, bloody trauma! Dad did his running up the street who dropped litter, thought he’d lost his shoe, but it was the tendon fully detaching. Mum was pissed and fell down stairs.

redchocolatebutton · 27/09/2019 21:32

can you afford 700 for a private consultation/scan?
if it is torn it needs operation on pronto

Hoooo · 27/09/2019 21:38

It's definately still intact, thank god!
But not sure the extent of the damage iyswim?
Surgeon said tendon frayed (?) and swollen. Its a lot bigger than the other apparently?
Explained about the collagen breaking down that it's genetic...
I have to work up to 200 heel drops a day! 😬😫
