Receipts

Do you keep your receipts?

I can understand when let's say you bought a £100 pair of earphones from Currys, you might keep the receipt just to be sure they work when you get them home.

But for everyday things, do you bother taking a receipt (quite a few stores these days ask if you want a receipt and you can take one or decline)?

Once I know I'm definitely keeping it, say new jumper, I don't see the point in keeping the receipt, just clutters up wallet/handbag. Some things, such as a basket of food shopping, it's not like you can take it back after you've eaten it.

I know some people say you should keep all your receipts and periodically check them against your bank statement but not really sure what for. As long as you run your eye over your bank statement to look out for transactions that you don't recognise and could be fraudulent, why check that yes, that £15,67 in Superdrug, has indeed been debited from my bank account.

Worth keeping receipts for higher value items in case they develop a fault and you need to argue the toss (Consumer Rights etc). Also some insurers may want to see receipts for theft claims.
