Ideas please
NC as outing- regular poster
The boxing in the corner needs to come out as possible leak causing problems in next door room
The floor needs to stay
Ugly cupboard/burglar alarm moving and will be behind a mirrored cupboard above current radiator
The floor is black and white in case it doesn't show on pics and matt finish
What colour tiles? Gloss or matt?
Seems to me only option to fit in with floor is dark grey?
1860 Georgian looking house
Rest of house is traditional (coving, v high ceilings) with modern furniture
I'm hopeless with this sort of stuff

I would go white tiles on the walls. Either gloss or matt would do depending on your taste. That way, the walls could be painted any colour you like to match with rest of the house. So much potential there!! Am sure it will look great!

I LOVE the opera wallpaper! We stayed in a hotel in Paris which had it in the gold/red colourway, looked amazing. It's also quite funny that the little people are watching the "performance" Grin

You don't need tiles particularly on the walls if there's no shower or bath. You you could achieve a very similar look to that first picture with a skim of plaster and some beading, which would save the headache of trying to match the floor tiles which are staying.

I think it would look good if you got rid of the wall tiles altogether and used your lovely statement paper on your facing wall. You could then tie in a paint colour for the rest of your walls and add more colour/brightness, especially if you go with the fish.

Here are the wallpapers again
It had never occurred to me that don't need tiles Confused but that's a great idea!
I love the drama of black and white opera one but also available in various colour ways
So, no tiles over walls
Would I need a splash back though? I think 6 tiles above basin may look a bit odd?

Most modern houses these days just have a row of tiles above the sink and skimmed walls so not so odd. You could get some to match your paint choice ect.

I'm not so sure about wallpaper though, I'm more a clean skimmed, painted walls person.

Would a large plain tile go in the space, so it looks more like a backsplash than tiling? I've got one large tile above my bathroom sink, but it does match the ones behind the bath.

bestbefore · 22/09/2019 09:23

I am favouring clear glass splashbacks for behind sinks at the mo; no need for any more tiles at all! Just need a skirting to bridge the gap at the bottom of the walls...tiles can go up the wall.
I'd do dark grey floor tile, and then a lovely grey on the walls with perhaps some copper accessories?

Oldraver · 22/09/2019 09:32

I have never liked the 3/6 tiles above the sink look that so many newbuilds seem to do, and I wouldn't have paint/wallpaper around a toilet. I think the tiling halfway up the wal,l as it is, is muc better. Maybe some less loud tiles

MitziK · 22/09/2019 13:59

Plain white tiles all the way up to at least the actual windowsill, instead of leaving that tiny gap.

If there's the money, I'd want to think about fitting a shower in and putting the toilet against the other wall. Or at least having the option to fit one in the future, possibly installing a good quality cupboard/storage in the dead space in the meantime. With a great mirror and lighting.

So I'd tile full height on three walls, leaving the one that's cluttered with coats and the doorway free for colour. And move the radiator to nearer the toilet, possibly replacing the traditional with a nice, cast iron one or a decent quality towel rail, thus freeing up the shower space completely.

My bathroom has full ceiling height tiles on one wall, to a third of the height of the window recess (makes it so easy to clean) and the remaining wall is painted in a dark, rich cocoa, as the large amounts of white mean it isn't overpowering - I laid a black and white floor tile to keep the traditional feel.

These are wallpapers again
I think I'm going to have to have tiles to cover boxing/pipes on at least the back wall
Plan is to remove ugly cupboard and have electric switches in there and burglar alarm hidden behind a mirrored cupboard in centre of wall
and a towel rail instead of the radiator
Also at least some vanity unit to cover ugly pipes under basin - unless can get pedestal basin that can sit in front of boxing
I'll put my mind to shifting some of the coats at least
I've thought about a splashback rather than tiles behind basin too
