40th party ideas

Morning Smile

So rather than do the million things I should be doing, I am thinking about my 40th next summer. I want to have a party, probably adults only, maybe at home? I'm happy to spend quite a bit, I've had a shit few years and want to really celebrate with friends and family.

Anyone got any suggestions to make it a bit special?

If you have it at home then you have to do all the preparations and any clearing up. I would book somewhere so that you don’t have that work to do!

What area are you in?

I'm up in the north west. Was thinking of having people in....set up a bar etc

@fluckityfluckfluck we did exactly what you are thinking. We & lots of our friends had kids so we didn't want to hire a room. We have summer birthdays but were worried about rain & it did chuck it down on & off. However, we found a company who came and did an amazing bbq for us, set it all up & put up a massive gazebo. We got a shit load of booze and had an amazing time. I would highly recommend it. I'm in south Manchester so if you are a similar location I can pm you the company details. They were brilliant. Happy birthday 🥳

Serve a special drink named after you as your signature cocktail

We love parties at home. The trick is to buy in help. We do all the cooking etc ourselves, shop at Lidl for ingredients so not dear. Then on the day have someone there from about 1h before it starts to the end of the party - reloading dishwasher, topping up drinks, putting lids and so on in the rubbish/recycling. Leaves us able to wrangle DC and enjoy friends, means the house isn’t a tip by the end and we don’t spend the whole next day clearing up. We’ve had our babysitter do it / local teen / random from taskrabbit. Much cheaper than venue hire / going out.

I've no plans no cook or prep. Normally I would but I've decided to splash out. The BBQ sounds like a good idea!

I've tried looking for people who come in and do it all but can't find anything other than posh dinner party or buffet....

Agree a bbq would be lovely. Hog roast? A gazebo or marquee. Look up caterers locally rather than specific party food suppliers. (How about a party planning co?) If there are any food fairs near you a lot of the stalls will do parties too. A disco and a bar and you're set!

Can I come?

fluckityfluckfluck · 21/09/2019 18:34

I was thinking hog roast! Garden wouldn't really suit a marquee due to size/shape/different levels though
