Sorry for the pic but can anyone confirm if this is a false widow spider...

I need to burn the house down immediately, don't I??

Eek I have one in the frame of my shed window. It trapped a caterpillar cocoon in its web and ate it!!! I'm too scared to go near it or in my shed lol

Nonstopbuttmachine · 21/09/2019 21:12

FGS it's a tiny little spider, put it out of the window!

YouJustDoYou · 21/09/2019 21:15

Yes I'd say FW. We have them here in droves in Dorset! My poor old dog got bitten by one once, it was horrible. THe only spider I'll kill.

YouJustDoYou · 21/09/2019 21:16

That second photo isnt the same spider as the first.

Septembersunrays · 21/09/2019 21:23

We kill them too. People say, oh it's only a wasp sting, but I know people bitten by wasps and they don't come out with huge swollen legs or arms, and nasty infections.
I know people bitten by false widow and they have been very ill.
I couldn't take the risk we kill.

fireandbrimstoneetall · 21/09/2019 21:43

No the last pic I posted is of one I found earlier this evening in my bathroom...

So not the same spider. Obvs 🤷‍♀️

It would seem I am inundated with the things. And yes, tiny little spider... so very cute until it grows bigger and bites the toddler or the dog...

I had a false widow living in my kitchen for a year. This summer it disappeared. I'm sooo glad. The positive of it is, any flies were doomed.

BilboBercow · 21/09/2019 22:12

Flame thrower

Bezalelle · 21/09/2019 23:02

Bloody hell, that is hideous.

PotterHead1985 · 21/09/2019 23:12

@ragged shoot me. I am a masochist. I read that article with my mobile inches from my face. No sleep for me Confused

Louisaouisa · 21/09/2019 23:37

For heavens sake, it’s tiny!!! Just put it out the window and stop getting worked up Hmm

Fortheloveofscience · 22/09/2019 05:19

It’s really, genuinely not anything to get so worked up about. Put them both outside using a glass and some card same as you would with any other spider, as long as you don’t pick it up with your bare hands or step on it, it won’t bite you. I reckon almost all houses in SE will have a few false widows, they’ve become really common. I’d far rather have them than the huge house spiders, they bite too!

sashh · 22/09/2019 05:58

OP

When I moved into this house the garden had loads of spiders that seemed to be out to get me.

I contacted a spider enthusiasts website and they identified it for me, but then they got excited and asked me to be part of their survey. Now I still wouldn't chose a spider as a pet but I'm much less bothered by them.

Jesaminecollins · 22/09/2019 06:01

@fireandbrimstoneetall
