Constant severe pain from stomach ulcer

Is it normal for a stomach ulcer to cause continual pain despite ranitidine? Waiting for endoscopy but the pain is constant and exhausting. Had me in tears all day yesterday. Don’t know at what point I should go to A&E.

Ranitidine isn’t great, can you get back to your GP and ask for Omeprazole or Lansoprazole instead?

Been on Omeprazole but didn’t work. Been on both since yesterday

Have you had an endoscopy prior that says it's a stomach ulcer OP? What is the pain like? where is it? How long have you had it in this constant manner?

I'm sure you know but make sure you are not taking any pain relief containing ibuprofen or drinking alcohol or consuming trigger foods.

Realistically if the pain is not manageable with what you have been given, you can go to A&E anytime and it be legitimate- just manage your expectations as to what they might do for you and what you would want them to do. Hope it abates OP- I suffer chronic pain with an illness and know how it feels to be at your absolute wits end with it Flowers

You've only been on the omeparazole for a day - and all it does is to reduce the amount of acid which your stomach produces , thus slowing down the progress of the ulcer. It isn't going to stop the pain at all.

You need to take some over-the counter antacids like Mylanta to coat your stomach and reduce the pain.

I'd certainly be booking another GP appointment , since this level of pain is unusual in people with ulcers.

Omeprazole takes a while to work. You need to build it up essentially. Long term it should allow the ulcer to heal.
When do you take it? It’s best taken first thing in the morning with water then wait at least 30 minutes before food.

Been on ranitidine for months. Omeprazole added to try and help with the pain. Symptoms been since January and eating appropriate foods, no alcohol or iboprufen.

Pain used to be epigastric after food but now it’s almost constant.
