can stress mess your periods up?

i've been under a lot of stress the past year, over the past 8 months or so my periods have gone from being heavy to light.
This month i'm due on at the end of the month but i've been to the toilet and when i 'wiped' there was blood there?
i had a smear test in march if that makes a difference?
i'm also on no contraception so that won't be affecting it.

I think they can. I am TTC at the moment and I’m pretty sure I ovulated late and therefore my period was late. I had a hugely stressful weekend around the time I was due to ovulate and so ovulated 4 days later.

Stress has affected my period over my life, big stress like moving house, moving country, losing a loved one, losing a job, hospitalised husband, minor (but bloody scary) RTA.

Keep an eye on your crotch Blush and go to your doctor if you're worried Flowers

Yep. Mine completely stopped last year. Thought I had started the menopause but it actually coincided with an extremely stressful time. Stress now reduced and back to normal.

yeah i thought so but how do i know if its just stress? i hate irregular periods it really worries me into thinking somethings wrong but how would you know?
i think this has happened before but it was literally there for about one wipe then came back when i was actually due on.
i think i'll just book a doctors appt on monday thanks so much everyone.

I hope you can get it sorted out Flowers

You may need to pressure your doctor into tests. Normal periods can fluctuate from 21 to 35 day cycles and it is normal for one persons cycle to fluctuate this much.

My friend took 15 years to get diagnosed with endometriosis as the GPS kept fobbing her off. She had to educate herself and get help from a charity to force the GP to refer her.

Yes, definitely. I can think of several stressful times when my periods stopped for a while, I also bled very heavily with stress/anxiety.

About 20 years ago I was in the most awful stressful job. During a six weeks period of time, I had 3 periods. Blood loss one week and hideous pmt the next.

In the 3 month run up to our wedding, I didn’t have a single period .

A few weeks ago someone on here said that all hormones start out as the same base ingredient and are then manufactured into the hormones your body needs. It made sense that the stress was forcing my body to make cortisol instead of oestrogen / progesterone.

Stress caused my cycles to get shorter and shorter - until I had a 17 day cycle :-( The GP did some blood tests (not sure what) and concluded "don't worry it is only stress!" - No offer of any help for it though :-(

Mine seriously gets messed up with stress.

I usually go 27 days to 36 days and everything inbetween.

But you can bet your life on it always arriving on a stressful day when the last thing i want is my period, to the point that one time it arrived 10 days late just so it would be on the super heavy day 1 during my black belt grading.
