I need some sort of audiobook player...

...for my 4.5 year old DD. She has recently started school and is so wired at bedtime that she can’t sleep and she is just so overtired and tearful it’s awful.

So I thought audiobooks and headphones might be a way to keep her distracted until she falls asleep. But what could I play the audiobooks on?? I’m not very up to speed with this stuff. She can’t have a phone or tablet because she will just play with it all night.

Any suggestions??

Which paid subscription are you tied to?

Audible

There are free library apps for audio books which you cannot download onto any Amazon device. You have to use their paid for subscription only for audio books.

Makes me laugh all these people that have listening and recording devices in their personal spaces. In a childs room!

Just get some tapes to listen to, or cds even.

Like a pp says though,if shes falling asleep during them she'll never get the story.

That might bother her, but it might not.

Mine plays to the end of the book whilst I'm fast asleep, and sometimes wakes me up again! I keep forgetting to set it up but love listening to it.

Cant kindles play audio?

Please dont use headwires though, just let it play out loud (quietly!)

Old school chez muddling CD player & audio books from the library.
The library also has a limited number of these playaway things where the story is preloaded mp3/4 and you use headphones.
Dd1 listens to them to relax & then takes them off before sleeping.

All listening/recording devices have an option to turn off the microphone! We don't have any of ours on, we just chose Google home because it was a good quality speaker we could cast to, for very little money (especially as we managed to get 2 free!)

You don't have to pay the subscription for audible. You keep your already purchased audiobooks/account even if you cancel the subscription and you can always purchase books outside of the subscription.

For children's books it's usually cheaper to do it that way anyway as most children's books are cheaper than the 7.99 subscription.

All the subscription does is give you a free book credit per month and open up some discounts. You aren't tied into anything.

I'm fine with a 'listening device' in my child's room, it's switched off during the day and switched on for audiobooks at night. The only thing it's listening to is snoring or perhaps a very occasional 'mummy I need a wee wee'.

I understand the concerns that they are listening and data mining but in this situation the benefits if the device outweigh the concerns.

Refurbed echo dots are currently £24.99

I know they've been mentioned a few times so thought would post :)

I’d have a speaker rather than headphones. She might be uncomfortable and that would be counter productive. And i’m not sure how good for their hearing they are.
