Colours

Due to some big changes we're making in the house, we're moving our living room. Would rather not replace our sofa (light brown) or our carpet (red) but walls can be painted/ new curtains/ accessories etc.
Problem is I'm terrible with knowing what 'goes' and what doesn't.
Anyone have any ideas for tying it all together?

Any colours on the neutral pallet will go with the carpet.

So just pick shades that you like and go ok with your sofa.

Don't pick one that you like less because it goes better with the sofa. When you're sat on the sofa, it's the rest of the room that you see.

Find a rug/ painting/ curtain fabric that you like that incorporates that shade of red. Get cushions/ vases/ accents in the red plus 1 or 2 other colours from the rug/ painting/ curtains. Paint walls in a neutral colour.

Thanks everyone. And @ponoka7 that's such a good point about sitting on the sofa!

Soft greys go well with red
As PP said pick up some decorative pieces that have the colours you already be e and the colours you want to tie everything together.
Lighting can make a huge difference, consider getting some lamps with soft or low watt bulbs
