Why can't i sleep?! I have not drunk too much coffee. I do not nap during the day, I'm not stressed or ill or anxious. And yet I'm wide awake and have been since 1. I have to go to work tomorrow and I want to cry 😭Anybody else suffering too?

Welcome 👋

SaveFerris1 · 19/09/2019 04:09

Thank you! But I don't think it's a club I want to be part of Wink

I go through stages of this, although at the moment it is night feeds waking me up. I found the best thing for me to do is to get a glass of water and a book that I know really well. Laying in bed reading helps me get to sleep quite quickly, but the book has to be one I know the story to, otherwise I get drawn in and don't sleep, which is counter productive.

Is something bothering or worrying you?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 19/09/2019 04:19

Nobody does but embrace it for what it is and relax. I don’t say that flippantly.

Last year I had horrific anxiety induced insomnia. Weeks turned in to months and I was falling apart. The worst bit was going to bed anxious that I wouldn’t be able to sleep. It was a self fulfilling prophecy. I had CBT to deal with the anxiety.

Now when I get the odd night, I trust that it’s a one off. I watch tv shows I need to catch up on, read, enjoy the quiet. Snooze on the sofa if I can.

Good luck!

I go through fits and starts of being able to sleep. Generally I have 4/5 nights a week were I sleep at most 4 hours, then have some catch up nights. Tonight is a no sleep night clearly Grin

Alicewond · 19/09/2019 04:24

So sorry @awesmum

FFSOMG · 19/09/2019 04:57

I made the mistake of having an afternoon nap so no sleep tonight for me! It means I have to try not have a nap again and stay awake until bedtime tomorrow/today.

Hello! Life long insomniac here. I usually take something to help me sleep but have decided to take two weeks off because it's so bad for long term health. I've had two weeks of very little sleep! Tonight I'm starting on a new healthier sleep aid. Can't wait!

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 19/09/2019 06:43

I’ve had pregnancy insomnia since about week 6 - currently 19 weeks. Last night was a good night but often I’m only getting 4ish hours. I agree with trying to just roll with it - it’s amazing what the body can cope with but so much easier to do so if you’re not fretting or stressed about it.

Branleuse · 19/09/2019 06:46

I hope you managed to get to sleep in the end

SaveFerris1 · 19/09/2019 06:56

Thanks everybody. Went back to bed and finally got a bit more sleep, but now up for work 😴.
Started taking a new tablet 2 days ago as they think I have a stomach ulcer, guess what one of it's common side effects is? Insomnia. Think I might have found the culprit!

I tried to go to sleep but I’m in hospital and two other patients woke up and have been kicking off atstaff since about 6am.

Oh how I needed this thread a few night back - I posted in the wee small hours myself looking for company but clearly posted somewhere with less traffic and killed my own thread!

Could you take the meds in the morning, or if twice a day the morning and then mid afternoon so still spread out? You may find that after a tough night last night you naturally sleep better tonight. If it persists I find nice relaxing pulse point oils and pillow spray help.

@ffsomg that sucks, hospitals are such tough places to get rest in and ironically it’s when you need rest the most! Get well soon.
