How do I buy concert tickets?!?

CoddledAsAMommet · 18/09/2019 21:55

My daughter is about to turn 18 and would like tickets to see her favourite singer. What's the best website to do this so I definitely don't get ripped off? Ticketmaster? There seem to be so many and it's not the sort of thing I usually do!

How did I get to 42 and not know this?

(And am I being a fogey calling them concert tickets? Should it be 'gig' or something?)

Thanks all.

Ticketmaster is the best known, international website. Go with them :)

tabulahrasa · 18/09/2019 22:02

Who is it?

Usually ticketmaster is your best bet, but it depends... and whether they’ve a tour and when those tickets are released...

RezCowgirl · 18/09/2019 22:06

Go to the artists website in the first instance, see where their website links to.

Go to the singers website and sign up to the mailing list and join the fab club, (normally free) you will get info on up and coming tours and where to buy tickets, some artists don’t use ticket websites, also, go direct to the venue, ie if they are playing at the o2 call the o2 directly, the venues have an allocation of tickets the ticket websites don’t even if ticketmaster (for eg) says they are sold out always ring the venue.

Sn0tnose · 18/09/2019 22:11

Ticketmaster is probably the best known. I’ve also used See Tickets a few times with no problems.

Make sure you have a read of the terms and conditions in case the cardholder needs to be present.

IWantMyHatBack · 18/09/2019 22:13

I always go via either the artists website, and follow the links from there, or directly from the venue.

Rubicon80 · 18/09/2019 22:20

You're only a couple of years older than me, have you never been to see anyone yourself? Confused

mypuddin · 18/09/2019 22:26

As per pp ticketmaster or seetickets. Or go to the venues direct website.

Read the small print though as many concerts now you have to be the cardholder who paid who attends the concert (to prevent people reselling at a higher cost) . My husband had to come to a concert with me because he bought the tickets on his card, he was not impressed! He thought he was doing a nice thing getting me tickets for me to go with a friend! Ticket master or axs tend to be the official retailers, twickets is good for resale tickets. Who is it you want to see?

NeutralJanet · 18/09/2019 22:31

If you're using ticketmaster make sure you have your card details to hand, it times out quite quickly after you've selected your tickets.

HeronLanyon · 18/09/2019 22:34

Mix of ticket master and more often for me, direct with venue through website. For some venues (eg roundhouse) it helps to be a member so you have early booking access.

CoddledAsAMommet · 19/09/2019 17:36

Thanks everyone. She wants to see Hosier.
I've been parenting since my early twenties, moved around quite a bit and not had anyone to go to concerts with so I've not bought tickets for a long time. I'm more of a theatre person anyway.
Thanks again.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound dismissive with the 'rather go to the theatre' thing; it's just I'm not that into music. I like the odd song by each artist but certainly not enough to go to a whole concert! Thanks all.

So rude!

I'm around the same age as OP and have never been to a concert. So what? Is that really deserving of a Confused

Soberfutures · 19/09/2019 17:53

www.ticketmaster.co.uk/hozier-tickets/artist/1896592

Here is an official link to buy

pumkinspicetime · 19/09/2019 17:57

I'm about the same age as OP and have only been to two concerts in my life, I don't much like them and wouldn't bother to go again.
I have bought tickets for dh using Ticketmaster but only because he really wanted to see a band and I sorted as a gift.
I found it rather confusing.

isseywithcats · 19/09/2019 18:13

ive used a company called eventim several times and they havent let me down yet

Foslady · 19/09/2019 18:16

I’ve only started buying tickets these last few years for stuff bigger than my small council run venues and I’m 51! DP bought a ticket for his first big event last year......I had a private duckfit as he’d bought it off the big resale website that kept having horror stories in the news (can’t remember the name of it now) but his —rip off overpriced— ticket turned up on time. He registered in time this year for next years event.....
Ticketmaster and See are both ok

Neilsfavouritechilli · 19/09/2019 18:17

I'm with those who go via the artists website. They're obviously happy to use that supplier so it makes sense.

nancy75 · 19/09/2019 20:42

It looks like the uk dates are sold out so you will be buying resale - I strongly recommend twickets for this (most artists support twickets as a resale platform as it’s face value only)

LBOCS2 · 19/09/2019 20:43

@CoddledAsAMommet, it may be worth knowing in that case that Ticketmaster also sells theatre tickets :)

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 19/09/2019 20:59

I'm 38 and going to my first concert next june, it's the hella mega fest greenday/ fall out boy/ weezer. I only know how to buy tickets as my DS signed me up to the mailing lists for lots of bands we both love and I get the emails with links to buy tickets, DS is much more savvy than me, has already been to see twentyone pilots three times, frank Iero and leeds festival- so I'm still learning!

Foslady · 19/09/2019 22:41

@Heaviestdirtyestsoul we’re at Huddersfield for that one!

Iwantacampervan · 20/09/2019 08:22

I've not bought concert tickets for myself but have been there, many times with all laptops ready, presale codes etc waiting for the magic time to get tickets for my two as they've been at college or work. I find it very stressful and was pleased this week when the two of them had to go through it on Tuesday getting tickets for Green Day/ FOB in London (I was working). As it turns out there were still tickets available through the stadium presale on Wednesday evening.
The next date for me will be the sale of the baseball tickets for next June.

CoddledAsAMommet · 23/09/2019 17:24

@nancy75 thank you so much for the Twickets info. 2 tickets have just popped up for resale and I've booked them. One happy daughter.
Thanks everyone for your help!
