DH burned meal and I can't open the windows...

... because of air pollution outside (not in the UK).

Basically the pm2.5 level (most damaging to health air pollutant) outside is so unhealthy today that the recommendation is to keep children indoors. We've been checking the air pollution index all week and planning activities to minimise time outside. Today DH and toddler DS have stayed in all day trying to stave off cabin fever. They'll probably have to do so tomorrow as well.

Now DH has only fallen asleep on the sofa and burned a meal he was cooking - the smell woke me up in the bedroom and I can hear him cleaning up and the kitchen fan going. So I'm guessing the pm2.5 levels are now as bad inside as they are outside (there's a study that says just roasting a meal can raise indoor pm2.5 to very high levels albeit for just 1h). Our kitchen is open plan with our living room. What the f do we do? All I can think of is to run a hot shower with the door open to get some steam in the air but we have pretty big rooms and it's not week situated. It's 3am here. I'm so pissed off with DH and worried about DS and all the f* pm2.5 particles lodging in his lungs.

Don’t know about clearing the air in the flat. Depending on what time it is could one of you and DC go out to an activity that is indoors - maybe the cinema or shopping centre. The other can be at home to try to clear the air.

Can't comment on pm2.5 levels but can suggest that you slice several lemons into several pans, fill with water, leave lids off and boil (top up as necessary) for a few hours. It'll add steam and make it smell much better.

Thanks. We've tried orange slices. I suggested the cinema and shopping mall to DH. I'm so angry now. What's the point of taking all these precautions if we're just going to f* things up indoors.

We do have a HEPA air filter. Hopefully it'll work wonders overnight. In the meantime we'll get an air quality monitor too.

Sounds like a pretty unpleasant place to live!

We're in a city that's affected by haze every year for a few months. It just figures that DH picked the worst time to do this when it's especially high. The last few days it dropped overnight but tonight it's still at unhealthy levels.

Otherwise the city is lovely! 😭
