Yes I do and it is much needed me time! Sometimes I even push the boat out and take myself out for dinner beforehand Grin

Pinkflipflop85 · 18/09/2019 20:39

I've been to the theatre quite a lot on my own as well.

ohdearmymistake · 18/09/2019 20:41

Yes I've done it, it's great.

dazzlinghaze · 18/09/2019 20:42

Yes definitely do it! I'm planning on doing the same for the Downton movie because no one else I know likes it. I'll just buy my ticket online and pick it up at the machine and head in. No one will even notice.

Leeds2 · 18/09/2019 21:01

I never have, but only because I don't enjoy the cinema. If I liked it, I definitely would.
I have often eaten in restaurants alone, which I think is a more "daunting" experience than cinema.

Tesbel · 18/09/2019 21:06

Thank you all

Currently sitting outside waiting to go in... now debating to go in before the lights go down or after probably best before coa I'm clumsy as hell and would probably fall ass over tit and make a whole other show of myself 🤣

SO jealous of you right now! I might do it again next week.

Frangible · 18/09/2019 21:08

Mumsnet is so weird, sometimes. Why wouldn’t you? Is there some unwritten rule about cinema being a group or couple activity? Because obviously the best way to socialise is to sit in silence in the dark.

EasilyDistracted77 · 18/09/2019 21:12

Yep, went to see Downton Abbey on my own on Monday! I have also just booked myself a ticket for a gig and will be going alone because I don't know anyone else who likes that artist.
You do yourself a disservice if you miss out on something you really want to do just because you can't find someone else to go with :-)

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 18/09/2019 21:12

I’m going on Sunday evening. On my own. Cannot wait. Bliss. I’ve bought 2 seats at everyman so I can stretch out Grin

negomi90 · 18/09/2019 21:18

Go, buy snacks and walk in with pride before the previews because they're important!

Paddington68 · 18/09/2019 21:19

Love going on my own, I'm great company.

ChilliMayo · 18/09/2019 21:19

I went last night and there were plenty of people on their own, no one took any notice.
Our cinema is quite laid back, so no one batted an eyelid when one person took out a Tupperware full of packed tea and a flask either.

surlycurly · 18/09/2019 21:35

I regularly do this. Saw downton abbey on Sunday night- it was great! Definitely go.

surlycurly · 18/09/2019 21:36

Ah I'm a lazy cow- should have read the whole thread. Hope you enjoy it!

Ironfloor269 · 18/09/2019 22:03

Yes, and have several times. Going to the cinema alone is one of life's simple pleasures.

MindyStClaire · 18/09/2019 22:06

Yup, DH lived abroad for work for a couple of years and I did it a couple of times. Never awkward at all.

I did however decide I preferred staying in with Netflix and wine than driving to the cinema. Blush

Sigh81 · 18/09/2019 22:09

I think that going to the cinema and theatre (and on holiday) by yourself is one of life's greatest pleasures. 1) we are so lucky to be able to afford it, have the time to do it, 2) I am surrounded by colleagues or friends or DH all the rest of the time, 3) I can see what I want, when I want (or go where I want).

Bliss. Enjoy!

SamBeckett · 18/09/2019 22:10

I have done in the past and most of the time I have enjoyed it , the going and watching the film is great but I miss having a drink after and having someone to talk to about the film.

Ontheboardwalk · 18/09/2019 22:16

Yes go for it.

For a huge bucket of popcorn I went with my friend on Sunday. There were shed loads of people sat on their own watching it. I only noticed as I wished my friend had gone on her own and not made me watch it with her 😂

I’ve seen many films on my own (saves me having to buy popcorn for my friends) No one ever bats an eye

Mother87 · 18/09/2019 22:36

Do it all the time - love it!!

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 19/09/2019 06:29

Hope you enjoyed the film op - I can’t wait to see it on Sunday

bumblingalonghappily · 19/09/2019 06:33

I went to see it by myself on Saturday- first time going to the cinema by myself but I loved it! And worth noting that about a fifth of the audience were sat by themselves as well.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 19/09/2019 06:50

I don't understand why this is even an issue. To be brutal, how much time do you think strangers spend thinking about you that they care who you're at the cinema with?!

Oblomov19 · 19/09/2019 06:57

Yes. And I do. I like going in the middle of the day too. On my day off midweek.

I often think strangely that going to the cinema is kind of a waste, of friendship/date time. Yes You are watching a film and you can talk about it later but you actually spend nearly 2 hours sat in the dark not talking to each other when you could be sat having a cup of tea or in a café or in a restaurant or a pub talking / catching up with each other for two hours.

So yes. Going to the cinema on your own is good.
