Not sure if chat was the right place to post but here goes .
Ds (16) had new school shoes 2 weeks ago . ( £85 from clarks so not cheepies ! )
They cut /blistered him very badly .
Clarks hae chenged shoes .
I bought the blister plasters, to be fair not really knowing what they are meant to do .

According to anything I can find/google they are meant to come off naturally after 3 to 7 days .
13 days now and they are not moving !

Is that ok , normal ?
Oh and yes he does shower every day !
Would be grateful if anyone had used these plasters to advise .
Thanks .

Yeah that's normal, they are tough! He can peel them off though if he wants.

Soontobe60 · 18/09/2019 19:47

Does he shower or have a bath? Mine came off after 10 days with a bit of help, I only ever shower!
Get him to soak his foot in a warm bowl of water.

A hot shower always got mine off but I'd leave them on unless they're really manky, they'll fall off when they need to.

@Laura221 thank you .
We are worried that they will pull the tops off of the blisters ...and then have to start the healing process again .

There is a special way of removing a hydrocolloid dressing like a blister plaster.

If you flick either edge up so you can just get hold of it, and start to pull the edges directly outwards, to stretch the plaster as wide as it will go, it will come away from the skin without causing too much trauma. Much better and easier than trying to peel it off like a normal plaster.

Also, the idea of these dressings is to promote moist healing rather than dry healing like you’d expect from a dry plaster, so don’t be surprised if the skin appears a little mushy and macerated, it will dry out again once exposed to air. But if it’s still very tender or open then i’d just apply a fresh blister plaster.

soontobe and anchor

Thankyou as well .
(Slow texting )
If 13 days is ok I will tell him to leave it .
Worried infection and stuff might due to no fresh air .

Ahh QueenofPain thank you .
That is what has confused me ..the dry air healing .
What I can see under the plasters is gross and worrying me a bit .

Leave it on, it's supposed to look horrible under the plaster. It sort of draws out the pus and leakage from a wound. You can get little ones for spots and they look revolting after being on overnight.

Yes, I’d probably take it off now it’s been 13 days and have a look. It might be moist but still clean, pink and healthy looking in which case provided he’s not going to retraumatise that new fresh skin then it should be fine now.

But if it still seems sore, inflamed or very gunky once the plaster is off then he might need to see the doctor. But would still be okay to give it rinse in some water, pat it dry and reapply a plaster for tonight until the GP is open.

Hydrocolloids are good for 3-7 days, 13 days is pushing it a bit, but it might be fine.
