Has anybody been to see this? My 4 year old is desperate to go because she loves Dora but it's about Dora going to high school and I'm worried it will be too old for her and she won't understand it

Dora is 16 in this and goes to high school. There are jokes about high school that would probably go over her head, they probably went over my 8 year old's head too but that didn't stop her from enjoying the film. No one who is the age the film is aimed at will get jokes about being at high school, which is one of the reasons why it is such a bizarre idea for a film. There is still the storyline about Dora and Diego and the other high school kids on an adventure searching for the lost city and getting away from the baddies that your DD might enjoy. Some of it might be a bit scary for 4 year olds. I think my 4 year old would have found bits of it too scary but it depends on your DD. Also, the Dora in the film is a real person not a cartoon, will your DD get that it is still Dora the Explorer?

It's a great film. They've done it really well. However, at 4 it might be a bit scary on the big screen but if it's in the cheap kids showing take her - you can always come out if you need to.

I don't understand who the film is aimed at. Dora is a show from Nick Jr a channel mostly watched by younger children I'm not sure why they made her so old in the film. Teens are not going to want to watch it and most of those who watch Nick Jr will be too young to understand the plot and not be frightened by the action. Hmm

Thanks all- she has seen the trailer and she gets that the 16 year old is Dora but I think she's still expecting something like the tv show. She found parts of Aladdin a bit scary so I think I will have to put her off seeing this one.
I dont understand the thinking behind this film either! They could have made it about a younger child starting elementary school? It seems designed to underperform.

We will probably give it a try if it comes on sky movies or netflix, though. The reviews seem quite good.
