Worried about dd’s iron levels - best supplements?

Dd (13) has decided she doesn’t want to eat meat, although she is eating fish. I think she is ok for most nutrients as she does eat lots of vegetables, eggs, dairy, etc. However, I am worried about her iron levels as from the research I have done, I can’t see how she could be getting enough iron from the food she eats.

I have therefore bought some Spatone. Does anyone know if it’s any good? Years ago, post partum, I was a bit low on iron so had some Floradix - but once again, I am not sure how effective it is...

I don’t want to get her traditional iron tablets as I know they can cause stomach issues.

I’ve been veggie for almost my whole life (am now 43) and my iron levels have never been a problem, even though I existed on cheese and onion pasties and beans for a chunk of my teenage years! I know a study of n=1 doesn’t mean that some vegetarians don’t become anaemic, but a consultant dietician I had to see whilst pregnant once told me that one of the hardest things to get as a veggie isn’t iron, it’s protein, so I would keep an eye on this and ensure she gets enough. Spa tone is ok, not going to raise her levels significantly, but without checking with a gp I wouldn’t go giving her any more that this anyway.

I wouldn't give iron to a teen without checking she's deficient as it can make you really constipated. I'd ensure she's having lots of green vegetables.

Alicia - that’s really interesting. Maybe I am worrying needlessly.

Mother - yes, I agree.
