Budget up to 30 pounds. Ideally available from shops or for quick delivery online. Thank you!

What are desire-able brands for clothes and make up for this age group?

Money is always the best option, then she can buy what she really wants with it.

Ohyesiam · 17/09/2019 08:58

14 year olds live in Adidas and Nike. In the high street hollister is more affordable and seen as a good thing.

Theywontbe used to havingcash though, so it might seem unimaginative to you, but it will work for them.
Second beauty treatment voucher, even the sporty non make up wearing friends of DD seem to value a lash lift or nails done.

fedup21 · 17/09/2019 09:02

Piece of string question as it will depend on the girl. Money is always a good bet though

CloudRusting · 17/09/2019 12:13

Thanks for the responses. I can see the attraction of cash but her mum has said to me before about cash/vouchers being lazy impersonal gifts so better see if she has softened her stance!

It’s impossible to generalise about what all 14 year old girls would want as they can be very different.

Mine asked for cash from everyone this year so she could buy AirPods (total waste of money imo but that’s what she wanted).

If you don’t want to send cash, send something like a branded t-shirt with a gift receipt so she can exchange it if she doesn’t like it. My DD was gutted that she’d received make up and perfume that she didn’t like and wouldn’t use as it felt like a waste of money she’d rather spend elsewhere.

My 11 yo had a Chilly’s water bottle from someone which she really liked. The 14 yo DD said she’d have quite liked one too.

Cash or gift cards (check what shops first, mine would be happy with Amazon, Waterstones, Game or HMV). Plus some chocolates (a big box of Maltesers goes down well) or maybe a nice notebook.

She is totally uninterested in brand name clothes and any make-up or beauty stuff including treatments and would not want any of these or gift cards for them.

My DD is 13yrs nearly 14 and would love to be given cash. After that it would be gift card for New Look or River Island. She’d also be pleased with bath/shower products or iTunes voucher.

If the mother thinks vouchers/money are lazy and impersonal, then that is her problem. The very fact you've written here shows you're putting some thought into the gift. Don't bother checking with her.

BeanBag7 · 18/09/2019 16:07

It depends on the child, surely. When I was 14 I would have hated to get make up or branded sportswear, but plenty of others may have loved those gifts.

I would ask her or her mum. If she cant give you any ideas, just go with money.

LolaSmiles · 18/09/2019 16:10

It depends on the child.

An experience could be nice as an alternative to buying stuff eg. voucher to get her nails done / a private training opportunity if they do a sport / an event for their hobby

We'd need to know more about the girl, because I'd have hated nails, girly things, etc.

AChickenCalledDaal · 18/09/2019 16:15

My 14yo daughter is always delighted with money. It represents an opportunity to go shopping with friends and no strings attached. A box of chocolates with a £20 note slipped inside is a popular option.

Shoutymomma · 18/09/2019 16:31

Wreck This Journal and its ilk, Good Shopping Guide or A Life Less Throwaway, along with Greta Thunberg’s No One Is Too Small To Make A Difference, Friends Top Trumps, and if musical, Buskers’ Songbook (all Amazon); metal water bottle (TK Maxx); false eyelashes, pore strips, tweezers; manicure voucher; clothes from Pull & Bear (where you will get something good for £30).

ExpletiveDelighted · 18/09/2019 16:48

Cinema gift cards also welcomed by mine.

jcoc147 · 18/09/2019 16:50

I would suggest a nice makeup brush set if she is into make up. Real techniques is a good brand with teenagers.

Or maybe a little makeup set from mac

BikeRunSki · 18/09/2019 17:00

One 14 yo girl I know would like football shirts from every nation. Another would like a gift voucher for Sephora or Zara. 14 year olds have different personalities!

RJnomore1 · 18/09/2019 22:36

My -15 year old yesterday dd got a silicon straw in a carry case and she’s besotted with it?

Leeds2 · 18/09/2019 23:17

I remember DD getting a hip flask!

She liked, and still does, stuff from Paperchase. Or Urban Outfitters.

PeterthePainter · 18/09/2019 23:42

Speaking as a grandparent, I've always found 3 £10 notes in a card goes down very well.
