How to word wedding invitation?

DP & I are finally getting round to getting married.
And I’ve discovered what a bloody minefield the invitation wording is.

We don’t want or need any gifts, a lot of friends and family will be travelling up from quite far for the wedding, which is a big deal for us. So can we just not mention anything about gifts and hope people don’t bring us gifts, or do we write on the guest information card we just want our guests no gifts, is that rude (I googled and read somewhere it was presumptuous to refuse gifts as that would mean we’re expecting gifts). 🤦‍♀️

Personally I just want to go off and have it over and done with at the local registrars, but DP’s family would be incredibly hurt so I’m going along with the wedding party type thing.

I just don’t want to get this really wrong and end up a thread on MN AIBU Hmm.

It’s - traditionally - actually really rude to mention anything about gifts on the invitation. Leave it out!

Make no mention of gifts whatsoever. If your guests want to give you something, that's their prerogative.

Have a web page with full wedding details and the website address on the invitation. On the we page say no gifts, thank you.

We did this, as did many of our friends and it worked well.

Don't mention gifts. People will want to give you something though, it's the 'done thing'.

Set up a website?

Seriously want a very low key quiet wedding, although it’s looking like I’ll have bridesmaids in number to rival Kate Moss’s wedding 😂

Right I’ll suggest we don’t be say anything about gifts.

Thank you Smile

I don’t know whose “tradition” it is, but IMO it’s fine to put a line in - usually wherever you mention food etc - saying “We really don’t need any gifts - we’ll just be grateful that you can be there on the day.” Or something. Lots of my friends have done this.
