Disappointed with airwrap, what straighteners to get?

For one reason or another I just can’t get on with the airwrap and I’m considering selling it, With the money I’d hopefully get from it I’d like to get some straighteners, are Ghds still good? The pair I’ve got at th moment is over 10 years old! I’ve heard good things about cloud 9, any recommendations would be appreciated!

My hairs longish and quite thick (wondering if maybe that’s why airwrap hasn’t worked miracles on my hair?)

I've recently (like, last week recently) gone from GHD to Cloud 9.

My most recent pair of GHD lasted less than 3 years and tbh I didn't think they were anywhere near as good as the originals :(

The cloud 9 Touch ones are really really good. They don't drag my hair, heat up really fast & I've had loads of compliments about it looking nice. I find them quick and easy to use too (10 mins to straighten my hair just before work on the day they were delivered!) - I had a Babyliss pair at one point & the shape of them felt strange & I always ended up with cramp in my right hand from using them.

Oh, and, I quite like the novel click the plates together to switch the heat up and down thing Grin.

I'll get my original GHD's repaired eventually & may go back to them, but I'm very happy with the Cloud 9 ones for the moment.

I love my Coreolis ones, had them for 12 years. I have quite thick hair too.

Frustratedandworried · 16/09/2019 21:02

Just wanted to ask how long you have had the airwrap? It took me weeks to get the hang of it and in all honesty I only persevered because I was too embarrassed to admit to my DH I hated it Grin now I wouldnt be without it!

My friend has Coreolis ones, it was a toss up between those and the Cloud 9 for me. She raves about hers & I'm well pleased with mine Grin

I’ve had my GHDs for 10 years and they’re still perfect.

I’ve recently bought the GHD Glide and am in love with it. Takes me 3 minutes to do my hair in the morning now!

Megsmcgoo · 16/09/2019 21:06

Oh I’ve not heard of the coreolis ones, i’ll have a look!

I’ve had the air wrap about 3 months now, I’m just finding that I’m not getting a polished look from it Sad

I love my Airwrap now. Still can't do the curls but I can get a swingy but volumised bob in 5 minutes. I had a thread about it asking if I should send it back.

PrimalLass · 16/09/2019 21:15

Tbf I still run the straighteners through but only for about 1 minute.

GlasshouseStoneThrower · 16/09/2019 21:38

My colleague got an Airwrap and sold it after a few months - her usually beautiful hair never looked worse than it did in those months. I think it can be amazing but takes some getting used to maybe!

I love my ghds.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/09/2019 21:44

I have Cloud 9 ones. Recommended by my hairdresser as you can control the heat by turning it up or down, which you can't do with GHDs so they're less damaging for your hair.

I really like them!

Molly333 · 16/09/2019 21:57

I am a hairdresser and use the babyliss wider plate ones from argos ! I love them they get really hot and the wide plates are fantastic

Cominground · 16/09/2019 22:01

I love my cloud 9s I've had them over ten years. Ghds bought at the same time have been and gone!

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 16/09/2019 22:04

I tried some at Birmingham New Street on s pop up stand. They used steam I think. My hair looked fab but I couldnt afford them
Anyone seen these and know what they were?

Happypelican · 16/09/2019 22:07

I have a air wrap and it’s the best thing Ive ever owned. I have long very thick curly hair and it works amazing took a little while to get the knack of it but couldn’t be without. I have platinum ghds as well which I use at the end to just finish my hair off it’s a struggle at the top. I get so many compliments about my hair now the curls are lovely. I only use mine for curling straightening would be pointless doesn’t work on my hair.

whinetime89 · 16/09/2019 22:14

I love love love my cloud 9

gingersausage · 16/09/2019 22:36

GHDs are crap these days. They don’t last nearly as long as they used to. Cloud 9 are ok but overpriced. Remington Shine Therapy or Kipozi are the best value for money.

CakeNinja · 16/09/2019 22:50

I’ve still got my original GHDs - they’re 17 years old!
Was quite tempted by the airwrap to do some nice curls etc but then when I watched the reviews it seems you need a basic level of hair knowhow and hand skills to make it work - I’m useless, lack co ordination, arm strength and patience so didn’t bother.
I did buy the GHD hotbrush recently, it’s okay, wouldn’t recommend it for my hairtype for anything other than a quick (or not that quick) touch up on day 2. I was hoping it would remove the need for my straighteners but my hair is way too thick...
Anyway, I’ll replace my straighteners with cloud 9s when mine eventually give up.

Megsmcgoo · 17/09/2019 11:48

Yeah perhaps I’m being inpatient with the air wrap. I did expect it to be life changing but honestly I’d rather just get the straighteners out and use them instead, I maybe style my hair twice a month or something so just not sure it’s worth it? I cycle to and from work so ponytail is my go to!

I thought the hair dryer attachment would be a powerful as the actual hairdryer which was quite disappointing
