How much do you spend on party bags

My little one is having a soft play party for probably 30 children and I don't know how much to spend ?

My advice is dont spend loads on plastic tat that will literally go straight in the bin. This year I got a book set from the book people (loads of options for all ages), which worked out about £1 a book, and gave each child a book, sweets & cake.

mamalovebird · 16/09/2019 17:54

Second the book idea. I have done this for a few parties now. You can pick up some story books for 79p in places like Quality Save. They're only interested in the cake anyway. Most party bag tat breaks immediately and goes in the bin... total waste of money, never mind the plastic.

Leftielefterson · 16/09/2019 17:56

Agree with @rosybell it’s pointless spending £££ on tat. I’ve gone with some bubbles (my dd loves them), sweet cones that I’m filling with dried fruit and some chocolate buttons, a book and a slice of cake.

I’ve handmade the party bags and will be attaching helium balloons to each of the bags.

Kanga83 · 16/09/2019 17:57

I didn't do party bags, a slice of cake which was pudding at the party and a 'thank you for coming to my party' sticker stuck on by the birthday girl onto her friends

Stompythedinosaur · 16/09/2019 18:12

When I did whole class parties I used to budget £1.50 per bag, haribo packets are pence as are lollies, then I would put in 3-4 tiny things - stickers (big sheets can be cut up), tattoos, bubbles, maybe a sparkly pencil or a glider or something. Ebay is very good for getting things in bulk.

Figgygal · 16/09/2019 18:14

Don't most of them go in the bin no one really enjoys them

Plus I'm a bit concerned about all of the single use plastic bags they typically come in

We are doing little colouring books and pencils this time for DS third birthday next month with cake wrapped in a napkin and little paper bags from amazon

pumkinspicetime · 16/09/2019 18:32

My dc absolutely loved party bags, they also loved planning them once they were a bit older.
They don't have to be plastic tat.

AllFourOfThem · 16/09/2019 18:37

My kids also love decent party bags. Don’t assume the contents just goes in the bin.

RicStar · 16/09/2019 18:41

All parties around here have paper bags now and (very little plastic items) - will be cake / a sweet bag etc / one toy type item e.g. stickers or slap band or colouring pencils or a pen or something that fits with the party theme / slice of cake. Kids are generally happy they get the bag and it's an easy way to signal the end of the party.

SallyWD · 16/09/2019 18:44

We get paper bags from amazon, a book, some sweets, the cake and maybe one little extra toy. I try and avoid plastic.

Stompythedinosaur · 16/09/2019 21:02

My dc love party bags too. I do agree that a lot of the party bag toys sold in supermarkets is tat though.

Our most successful items were hatching dinosaur eggs from aliexpress and make your own charm bracelet sets from baker ross.

I can see the benefit in going for books, but I suspect that the dc would not find it so exciting. I realise I am only speaking for my dc and friends, others may feel differently.

EssentialHummus · 16/09/2019 21:09

Please don't do helium balloons as a PP suggests - there is a major shortage of the stuff, and there are really better uses for it.

My heart sinks a bit at party bags with crappy toys in. I'd suggest cake/small bag of Haribo, bubbles/colouring pencils/colouring book/stickers/a ball/a book/craft stuff (Baker Ross is good)/a Duplo blind bag if you know Duplo is popular with the attendees.

SushiGo · 16/09/2019 21:28

I've just done up party bags, I reckon no more than about £1.20 spent on each.

Definitely for 30 kids keep it simple! Don't forgot a lot of the space in the bag will be taken up by cake.

Check out pound toy and rex of London.

windmill121 · 17/09/2019 17:12

I completely agree on the tat and always try to get slightly nicer toys but I haven't don't bags for bigger groups and can't really afford to spend £3 on each bag.

I also love the book idea and have done this before but my daughter is not impressed Grin

I also want more unisex toys but thank you for your suggestions

I found once some nicw drinks beakers in poundland. Put a few sweets and cell. Wrapped it.. No tat thtt goes in bin

Also have done just sweet cones.

An done Yr I did a paint by numbers set with a few sweets.

Honestly the stuff that's aimed for the bags is utter rubbish. My ds used to Go for the balloon and cake. Rest would end up in bin.
