DS is public transport mad and we have explored London by tube, bus, ferry, DLR, overground (we live an hour away by train). Clearly there is a tram-shaped hole here, which we plan to fill next month.

We'll get on the tram in Wimbledon and do the whole length of the network. It's not a part of London I know and, other than Croydon Museum, I am short of ideas of places to visit on the way. Recommendations of nice parks, cafes, anything really, would be really welcome!

If you have an Android phone there is an app "Free Things To Do In London" which has loads of things on it - you can search by a map of each borough or by type of attraction.

Ikea!

Get off at Phipps Bridge for Morden Hall Park - playground, river for Pooh sticks, cafe, often activities going on as it’s National Trust.

Morden Hall Park is lovely!

Take shoes that can go in water and a change of clothes as there's a lovely stream they can paddle in.

Last week's Antiques Roadshow was there and you could see kids paddling then.

Morden Hall Park including looking at the tropical fish shop. Box park in Croydon for lunch. There's crazy golf out towards Addington and big parks. How old is your ds?

foxyfemke · 16/09/2019 11:23

Morden Hall Park is really nice, so yes, alight at Phipps Bridge and it's right there.

TaurielTest · 16/09/2019 11:32

He's 11. Morden Hall Park and Boxpark Croydon for lunch firmly on the list, thank you! He'd never forgive me if we went to IKEA :D

I'm also interested in the Bethlem museum of the mind but it's a little way from the tram (could get train from Elmer's End to Eden Park though) and might not be that child-friendly.

My 11yo likes the meatballs in Ikea... also the ice-cream machine.

If you need any cheap trainers or other sports kit, it’s worth stopping off at Waddon Marsh where there is a huge Decathlon right next to the tram stop.
