What's happened to my periods

Last 6 months the first day of my period has been horrific.

It started today and now I'm lay in bed with cramps and pains running down my thighs. I was on the loo and went freezing cold. Dizzy and threw up.

Just been and threw up again.

The pain is like early labour. Am white as a sheet

Is this normal? Am 35. Does it get like this normally?

I have endometriosis and that's what day 1 has always been like for me. Worth going to your GP to get a scan referral. I also have a fibroid which causes some issies

Yep, endometriosis and adenomyosis here and that’s an accurate description of day 1 (and often days 2 and 3) of my periods. Please go and see your GP. Unfortunately it can be a battle to get this investigated but this is not normal and needs to be checked out. Endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids are the most likely causes but can be other things. It’s not uncommon for women to be diagnosed with endo in their 30s.

Also, you’re ovaries lie on top of nerves that run into your thighs so ovarian issues such as cysts can often cause leg pain.

Oh dear :(

OK. I will go to my GP.

Thanks

In the meantime, I would recommend getting some Paramol which is the strongest thing you can buy over the counter (it’s paracetamol and dihydracodeine) - obviously not for longterm use but if it’s only day 1 of your period each month then that’s not an issue. You can take this with ibuprofen which really helps with the inflammation pain.

Another thing that might help is buscopan, it’s taken for IBS as it reduces spasming.

Not saying this is a longterm solution but it’s all stuff you can get over the counter to help until the GP can sort something for you.
