Rats

Dh just saw a 'effin massive' rat run across our garden. I am now in full on panic mode.
Live in a row of 3 houses in a residential area, block of garages to the back of us.
What the hell do i do? We have decking, a shed and rabbits in the garden. Where do I (send husband) to look to check if there is any nests? What can i do to try to discourage them?

There are rats everywhere. As long as they stay outside then there isn't a problem. To discourage them make sure they can't eat the rabbits' food.

I truly don't understand the panic though.

I've heard that those who keep rabbits often attract rats. It's an easy and continuous source of food, when you think about it.
Sorry I can't help OP, and hope you get it sorted soon.

The stock of rabbit food is kept in the house, they get fed and cleaned daily, but are greedy buggers who munch it in seconds!!

I live in an area with a rat problem, have recently had the pest people visit having seen them in my garden. To some extent you have to live with them, but there are things you can do to keep them controlled. Blocked sewers can also cause problems, as can local building work.

To discourage them - don't have food sources accessible, if you have rabbit food in the shed then it needs to be in metal and secure. They like compost heaps too, food plus warmth... don't put meat on the compost. Poison in the shed (if inaccessible to pets / children - keep it locked).

Just because you saw a rat doesn't mean you're going to have a rat problem

I'm afraid decking and rabbits are both very attractive to rats. And where you see one, more are often lurking out of sight.

You'll need to be extra vigilant to keep your rabbits safe- unfortunately rats are devils for getting into rabbit hutches and can injure rabbits. An extra cover may be a good idea.

If you continue to see rats, then you may want to contact pest control.

Check your home insurance, it might cover you for pest control.

Rats chewed through our wooden rabbit hutch and attacked our rabbits Sad
