12 year old dd and period pain

Poor love is suffering. She can't swallow tablets, I've given her a dose of 3-12 Nurofen. Can I give her Calpol as well and when?

Tried hot water bottle, she says it doesn't help. Is it true exercise can help relieve it? She has a dance class later but may not feel like going.

Crotchety Alka-Seltzer contains aspirin, so it shouldn't be given to children under 16.

I truly sympathise, I was like this from age 13 . I could only take paracetamol ( so basically calpol) , peppermint tea and chamomile tea used to help

Hope she feels better soon. One of these positions might help: www.doyouyoga.com/6-yoga-poses-to-relieve-menstrual-cramps-37359/

Buscopan works wonders for period pain. The tablets are much smaller than other pain relief as well

Try the hot water bottle on her lower back instead of her tummy. If it's TOO hot that can make it worse so try wrapping it in a towel.

Caffeine was a massive trigger for me, it helped a lot when I cut out tea coffee & coke for 48 hours before I was due. (Obviously that doesn't help in the immediate or if she doesn't drink thos anyway)

If she's really suffering each month take her to the Drs. Mine were horrendous through my teens and the GP was able to help

Naproxen and exercise. Exercise really helps, especially if she gets those contraction-like pains.

And you can get a low dose over the counter combination of cocodamol and paracetamol- Boots do an own-brand one or try Solpadeine.

Going on the pill would really help, but 12 is a little young, I suppose.

My dear Mum gave me a "hot gin" which was just gin, sugar and boiling water. Just like a previous poster. Also in the 70s. Not recommending it of course, just sympathizing. We didn't have Advil or naproxen back then. I also remember driving across the border to the US to buy Advil for period pain when we could not get it in Canada.

I'm sure exercise helps for a lot of people but I could hardly move when mine were bad as a teenager. I couldn't sit upright on a chair and could hardly walk in the house. I was pretty much bed ridden for 5 days. I was eventually diagnosed with endometriosis so my experience is probably a little extreme. Get her seen if she's in that much pain. x

My mum used to give me Amaretto in hot water too ! The 80s Confused
