Where to shop for nice but cheap home furnishings

I find myself at almost 50 having to start again.

I'm going to need to furnish a 2 bed bungalow from scratch with very little money.

I have a sofa
A bed
A washer/dryer
A mini hi fi thingy

And that's literally it.

I'm going to need wardrobes/bedroom furniture
Pots and pans
Kitchen equipment like kettle/toaster/microwave
Fridge/freezer
Towels
Bedding
Curtains
Tv
Tv stand

Basically absolutely everything. I want nice but cheap - does that exist? Where should I look?
Thanks in advance

And try Facebook Marketplace for furniture. There seem to be lots of ( 2nd hand - good for the environment) bargains on there.
Yes better than ebay because you can pop round and look at the thing before you part with you money.
I'be bought loads of stuff this way: furniture, rugs, art, light fittings etc.
I use it for environmental reasons because I'm trying never to buy new anymore.

Primark bedding is actually really good. And towels.

Thanks all
I have a few of those shops nearby.

Agree with pp that Primark is good for bedding/towels. Poundland is good for things like baking sheets, coasters, trays and cake tins. IKEA is good for things like cheap and quirky doormats and placemats.

Auctions- just to look on those antique shows to find out that you can get stuff really cheap. Just need to find out what’s not in vogue atm

British heart foundation furniture shops

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 15/09/2019 11:54

Furniture projects! I love them. Are there any near you?

Sewrainbow · 15/09/2019 11:59

For quality homeware that are cheaper I like Homesense, I can spend a fortune in there so try to restrict my visits!

Dunelm sale can be good for curtains etc.

I would also say score local ads, depends I'd you have time to wait and explore it if you need sruf straightaway...

If you do go to an auction you need to get the stuff home. At some auction houses you have a man with a van who will do it for a price, but find out what that price is before you bid because some will try it on.

I love b&m and the range.

Primark - towels

Asda - bedding

TK Maxx - bedding and picture frames

Sainsbury’s - really lovely kitchen stuff, lasts for years. Saucepans and baking trays. Bedding.

Range - cheap and cheerful kitchen stuff - wooden spoons and utensils.

Dunelm - blinds, crockery

Charity shops - everything! I’ve had bedding, brand new Next curtains, towels, crockery, proper silver spoons, bowls and jugs.

British Heart Foundation - just replaced my “temporary” BHF sofa and it had lasted 10 years! (Now have an EBay sofa that I saw before buying and the chap delivered for me for £10!) Also had a 1930s cabinet for £20.

Bluesheep8 · 15/09/2019 13:24

Dunelm. I've got side tables, a tv unit, wardrobe, a bench and a chest of drawers from there - all excellent quality furniture, sturdy and stylish.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 15/09/2019 14:34

Local auction house, charity furniture shops and Gumtree. Most of our furniture comes from these, and all chosen because we liked it rather than because it was cheap. Cheaper than IKEA and so much better made (and you don’t have to assemble it yourself!)

pumkinspicetime · 15/09/2019 14:37

The range has decent cheap mirrors.

Crystal87 · 15/09/2019 14:54

Have a look on Shpock or Gumtree. I've bought a three piece suite on there for 300 off someone who had it 3 months and paid over a thousand for it.
