What do you pack in bag for nursery?

What do you pack in a bag for nursery? DD will be starting when she’s nine months. I reckon I should have a spare set of clothes or two? Chilled bag for breast milk? What else? What sort of bag do you use? Obviously she’s too small to carry it for herself but is a child’s rucksack a good idea? Xx

You should ask them. In mine, they each have a little 'cubby hole'/box so every few days I replace the clothes, soothers, nappies, nappy cream etc. They provide blankets, sleeping bags, and all the food, so we don't need to give snacks. Mine was on bottles at that stage, so I'd bring 2 bottles of formula and put straight into their fridge when I got there. They label everything for us

Starrynights86 · 14/09/2019 14:46

I always sent two - three changes of clothes daily just in case, mine had a cubby and I just used a fabric tote bag at that stage and that was all that was taken in daily. My baby was on formula so we left bottles and tins of formula there and they made up the bottles. If you are taking in bottles, they should put them straight in the fridge. We topped up nappies, creams etc as required. She had a special soft toy for nursery and a special blanket which stayed there, they would just wash her blanket when they did the rest of the bedding.

When I went to the first settling in session I was sent home with a list of things to include daily in her bag (she is only 11 months). It says:

  • nappies (I send them in bulk and they just let me know when they’re running low)
  • wipes (same as above)
  • nappy cream
  • bottles, if they need them
  • several spare changes of clothing
  • coat
  • shoes/slippers or extra pairs of socks if they aren’t walking in case they get muddy whilst playing outside
  • hat
  • scarf
  • suncream
  • comforter

Nappies plus nappy sacks as we had washables

Two change of clothes, top and jogging bottoms and bodies. Check if they ask for waterproofs and a coat, DD was often in the baby part of the garden in good weather playing with toys.

Her cup and a tub with three measurements of formula and bottles to prepare it, she wouldn’t drink out of them but they had to make them somehow.

Our nursery had a fridge for breastmilk bottles.

We had a normal 20l backpack so we could carry it properly as I also had my work bag with me in the way to drop off. Each child had a hook for the bag and coat.

I use a childminder, not nursery but when we first started she basically said just pack a bag as though you’re going out for the whole day. Thinking about it like that made it a lot easier.

Depends on the nursery, at the one my little boy was at from 9 months, they provided everything. So all nappies/wipes/formula/snacks, even bottles and drinks cups. So used to send a little bag with change of clothes and a dummy. He's recently moved to a school based nursery and I had to remember to pack nappies and wipes etc Grin

happypotamus · 14/09/2019 16:43

Ask them. We had to provide 2 changes of clothes, nappies and wipes and nappy cream (people who were there everyday used to send in a pack of nappies, but DD only went 2 days so I would stick enough for the day plus a couple extra in the bag each day), bottles and EBM or formula, appropriate outdoor clothing for the weather e.g wellies, rainsuit, hat, gloves, sunhat

meepmoop · 15/09/2019 11:47

I pack - 2 changes of clothes
Waterproofs
Suncream
Nappies I take in a pack at a time.
They don't use wipes and have their own cream they use.
Wellies I tend to leave there as well

BaaBaaBS · 16/09/2019 10:03

Good luck with the settling in. It's tough going on you and baby, but I promise it gets easier. Just be prepared to give it a few weeks. Mine absolutely loves it now after a rough start getting sick and being clingy and upset. Now she runs in the door and barely looks back Grin

ChevalierTialys · 16/09/2019 10:13

2 change of clothes
Nappies (number depends on how many DC typically goes through in a day, I always overpacked)
Wipes
Nappy bags
Dummy (if DC uses one)
Suncreen and hat in summer
Wellies and rain mac in winter

Pack as if you are taking DC out for the day.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/09/2019 10:15

Haven’t they given you a list?? DS has:
Change of clothes or 2, sunhat, suncream, water bottle, bear, all in 1 waterproof, jacket.
Will soon swap to winter stuff so warm hat, gloves and scarf.
And he’s moving up to toddler room so need a forest school bag now too!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/09/2019 10:16

But yes they will/should provide you with a list - some nurseries you need to provide nappies, wipes, cream, bags etc (we don’t), some places you even need to provide food!

QforCucumber · 16/09/2019 10:18

We provided our own nappies but rather than daily i'd just buy a pack and send them in, they'd let me know when they were getting close to used up. In his bag would be 2 x changes of clothes. In summer a hat and suncream. In winter hat and gloves.

He is 3.5 now and keeps a pair of wellies at nursery too.

Cuppa12345 · 16/09/2019 10:20

I do CM. She provides everything so I juet send my daughter with her diary. When she was having a bottle midday, she had a bottle there. She provided the formula and has spare clothes, nappies, snacks. It's brilliant for us. It was 50p more per hour than another CM in the village but there I had to provide a packed lunch and nappies and pay for trips/activities. It works out at an extra fiver a day so prob could save a bit but the convenience is worth weight in gold!

rottiemum88 · 16/09/2019 10:48

DS just started nursery last week at nearly 8 months. The nursery asked for a couple of his bottles to be provided that they keep in his own named basket in the kitchen area, along with a box of his formula. He then has another basket in the changing area so we provide nappies and wipes in bulk. When the formula/nappies/wipes run low they let us know via the ParentZone app and we bring in more. The only things that go in his bag are a couple of changes of clothes (vest, joggers, top, socks) and either a jacket or cardigan for when they go outside. It's a children's sized rucksack which obviously he won't be carrying for himself for quite a while, but all the other children seem to have similar and it goes on a named peg outside the room he's in Smile

Bibs.

I don't think anyone has mentioned them yet.
