I am a bit fed up of roast dinner on a Sunday and want some variety
It still needs to be a bit "special" and I don't mind spending a bit of time and effort
(As long as i have Wine)
Not big fans of fish but otherwise non fussy family
Please inspire meGrin

I like a nice rich beef bourguignon and dauphinoise potatoes, roasted carrots and lots of greens 😋

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/09/2019 10:22

@drumandthebass do you have a recipe for that?
Sounds delicious

Not really. I just sort of make it up. I do look on bbc good food a lot and they have many good recipes

I confess that if i don't do a Sunday roast then I tend to do a big sunday brunch and a lighter 'supper'. I am a bit of a fan of soups and toasties.

Tomorrow however (and after a request from DS1 who is a fussy bugger) we are having a full on -High tea'. So, scones, cakes, finger sandwiches. I am making:

Smoked oyster volauvents
Asparagus sandwiches (has to be jarred white asparagus)
egg mayo sandwiches
proper coronaton chicken sandwiches
mini tarts
other glories.

I am quite looking forward to it! DS1 has promised to help. I thought it could be some family fun together.

I had an amazing dinner last week! I want it every day.

Lamb shoulder covered in a paste made of preserved lemons, garlic, coriander, parsley and s&p. Left overnight to marinade, cover with foil and roast for 5/6 hours at around 140. Let rest for a good 45 mins or so.

I served it with flatbreads (crosta & mollica bought ones) hummus, baba ganoush, a chopped salad of tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, olives, cous cous and vine leaves. So so good. And the leftover lamb freezes well for a quick wrap filling.

JapaneseBirdPainting · 14/09/2019 13:03

Oh that sounds amazing. Baba ghanoush is a weakness for me (Sainsburys do a good one from Sabra if not making yourself.)

I was going to ask what s&p was!! Blush

where do you get vine leaves?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/09/2019 14:15

That sounds soooo tasty

Hmm we are having roast turkey today so that's not much help is it?!

I like a big pot of chilli on a Sunday usually with rice, tacos, wraps, guacamole, tortillas, cheese and sour cream but maybe that's too midweek for you? Does feel special once it's all laid out and you've made the guacamole etc yourself

I also like nigellas spanish chicken with couscous and roasted veg. Google the recipe it's lush

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 15/09/2019 10:51

Will google the Nigella recipe
All hints and ideas gratefully received Grin

That lamb dish looks awesome
Soooo
Today I've followed the beef Bourgogne recommendation and am going to serve with dauphinois potatoes, roast carrots and some steamed veg
And a cracking bottle of red
Will report back later Grin
